Dear mini-me’s,
I will never be able to put into words or accurately depict my love for you. You two have been the best part about growing up and have molded me into the young woman that I am today. Being a big sister to you all is by far the biggest blessing and I hope you know that you are never alone; I am always on your team and I will always have your back. That being said, I want to give you some advice that I’ve picked up over the past few years whether it be dealing with friends, boys, or mom & dad.
First things first, always be the classy girl. Less is more. It is always better to be the girl that everyone respects, not the girl that measures her worth in Instagram likes. Know how to properly apply eyeliner. The “raccoon eye” look has actually never been cute contrary to what everyone thinks in middle school. Speaking of, middle school sucks and there’s no way around it. You will get through it, your friend group will work itself out and the boy that makes fun of what you wear will undoubtedly be a dork in high school.
Boys suck because they’re immature. They run around like chickens with their head cut off because they’re stupid. Focus on you and focus on your girlfriends because boys will come and go. When you’re upset because a boy has broken your heart, throw a smile on your face anyway because he doesn’t deserve you. An alternate option: call me and I’ll rally some people to beat him up for you.
You and your girlfriends are going to disagree and struggle with jealousy issues. Promise me that you’ll always think before you speak. Words do serious damage and you can’t take them back so carry yourself with grace and know when to keep your mouth shut. Be honest, but keep people’s secrets. If someone has entrusted you with information, it shows that you exemplify trustworthy behavior. That’s not gossip. However, know when to tune out the gossip because it’s petty and it makes you bitter.
Live like Jesus, love like Jesus. No matter what you’re doing on Saturday night, your butt better be in church at 10:30 the next morning. We were lucky enough to have parents that raised us on a foundation of Jesus and that has to be number one in your life. His peace is overwhelming and overflowing so take refuge in Him. When in doubt, pray it out. You are beautiful, you are strong, you are smart and you’ve put your trust in the Lord. You are unstoppable.
When mom and dad ground you or take away your cell phone, I know you’re going to be pissed. I was too. What I didn’t know at the time was that they were doing it for my own good. Now I know that actions come with consequences and I’m better for it. Just for your information, being five minutes early for curfew scores bonus points with dad. Spend all the time you can with mom and dad because one day you’re going to leave for college and you’re going to wish you could have those days back.
You two are the biggest lights in my life and you will always be my little sisters, no matter how old we get. Please remember that you are loved more than you will ever know and no matter where we end up, I’m a phone call away.
All my love,
Big sissy
