You might have heard this before, but it may have been said slightly different: "When you're doing what you love, it doesn't feel like work." I didn't realize how true this statement is until recently. I went to SCSU to major in Music, and to UNH to major in Education. A few months ago I finished up a long term placement as a Music Substitute Teacher.
I spent many nights, doing homework, preparing mini lessons, and becoming a better musician. I also sacrificed a few half hour sessions teaching one student piano and another ukelele. It was very rewarding seeing both of them grow musically. Despite being a little more tired, I felt refreshed because I was making a difference in someone's life.
Today I started a new journey of teaching my own piano class. This week alone, a lot of time and effort has went into preparation time and it paid off. Each student was able to get something out of today's class and they were able to move at the pace I expected. I even encouraged a student to be my helper and she seemed to excel in that area.
My advice is to find a job that you love. If it pays well, that will be the extra bonus!
