A Single Girl's Guide To Surviving Valentine's Day

Remember when we were little and every year on Valentine's Day you were guaranteed to get cards from everyone in your class? Or when it was just a holiday to hand out candy to your friends and wear red and pink bows in your hair? Then, we grew up and it became one of the more dreaded holidays for single people. Rather than being a day we look forward to it is now a day we dread, because it serves as a reminder that many of us out there are #foreveralone. But don't worry ladies, enclosed in this article are a few ways to handle the emotional turmoil that is being single on this particular day of the year:

Eat Your Feelings:

Treat yourself because today is all about you. Go out and buy yourself some delicious chocolate. Throw on a pair of sweat pants and order in all of your meals--the world is your oyster. Calories don't count today, you can hit the gym for some much-needed damage control tomorrow. If you want that piece of cake, then you eat that piece of cake. And don't forget that. Since you will be spending Valentine's Day alone, there is more food for you.

Spend A little You Time:

They say that the most important relationship is the one with yourself, and since you are alone on this very special day, take some time to get to know yourself a little better! Take a long bath, write in a journal, and take a long hard look at yourself in the mirror. Don't hold back. It is all about you today and since you don't have anyone else to worry about--you can do whatever you want!

Have a movie marathon:

If walking around with a fake smile plastered across your face isn't really your style, then cuddle up on the couch and throw on a rom com and cry your pretty little eyes out. Make sure to grab a box of tissues though since you don't have anyone to help wipe away your tears!

Get together with all of your other single girlfriends:

Misery sure does love company, and there is nothing more miserable than a single girl on Valentines Day. Get together with all of your other single friends and have a glass of wine whilst listening to a carefully selected playlist of girl power ballads. Scream the songs on the top of your lungs until you convince not only everyone within ear shot of your apartment, but also yourself, that you don't need a man.

Realize that you really don't have anything to be upset about:

After you have gotten your pity party out of your system, realize that you really don't have anything to be upset about. So what if you are single on February 14th? There are 364 other days in the year that you will also be alone, so why let this one get you down. No, but seriously don't let this holiday make you feel badly about yourself. You will survive it and come out on the other side unphased, I promise.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
