For those of you who do not know me or just do not know this, I have a younger sister. Her name is Emily Grace Johnson and she is one of my best friends. There is nothing better than having a younger sibling to look out for and share experiences with. She is currently 18 and I am 21. This article is simply for you to understand her through my eyes. Read this, and you are either on your way to getting to know her or just leaving with the knowledge to understand her better. Trust me, there are few things she and I don't discuss. I know her almost better than I know myself.
1. She can appear intimidating:
Emily has dark features (darker complexion, dark hair, and dark eyes). At a glance, she can appear mysterious. People are often intrigued by my sister but stop there. They are afraid to go out of their comfort zones and talk to her. She is one of the most down-to-earth people. They are most definitely missing out an amazing relationship/friendship. I promise she won't bite.
2. She is smarter than she gives herself credit for:
Emily is brilliant. Not only does she excel in school, she also has a passion for art and an amazing voice when she sings. Ever since she was young, she was creative. You can often find her sketching. She loves designing dresses. She enjoys making pottery. She likes collecting little trinkets. If you have the honor of knowing Emily, let her know you are proud of her. Support her and believe in her through everything that comes her way. She often just needs that boost of encouragement.
3. She loves animals:
Emily has always had a cat, it seems. She is a cat person and loves her little Simba. She cares about her very much. I thought she would become a vet when she grew up, based on how well she cares for animals and that love she shows towards just about any animal she has encountered. We have had cats and fish growing up. Emily knows how losing an animal is like losing a family member. Really, it leaves a big hole in your heart.
4. She will always be there for you:
You do not have to worry about Emily befriending you and then leaving your life. You do not have to worry about her gossiping about you with her friends. A loyal friend is hard to find these days. Often, people just want to get in your business or they just want to hang around you because they want something from you. Emily is nothing like that. She is there for you when you are upset, there for you when you've accomplished something, and there to make memories with you. Your pain is her pain. I have about a handful of loyal friends and Emily is one of them.
5. She doesn't like girls that put themselves out there (More than within reason):
Emily likes things that follow the more traditional, old-fashioned way. She would like to be asked out and then picked up at her house. She would like to be complimented and appreciated. She would like the guy to be in charge and not be afraid to approach her. She is worth the pursuit. So many women are like sharks. They fight over guys and push themselves in when they are clearly not wanted. Honey, real women don't chase guys. They don't worry with that because they are being pursued.
6. She has her southern roots:
She has good manners, loves sweet tea, enjoys singing along to country songs. She is inspired by "Friday Night Light's" Tami Taylor. She says "y'all" without a problem and oh, she loves her hats. Gosh, does she. She is proud of her Southern roots. It's a significant part in making her her.
7. Family is important to her:
Family is very important to her. We are from a large family. There's our parents, she has a sister (myself), and three brothers. She is often spending time with us. She will always have our best interests at heart and make time for us. We love her dearly.
8. She enjoys church and youth group:
For years, she has been active in our church. She has volunteered numerous times and participated in many events with the youth group. Church is important to her. She loves the people and the fellowship.
9. She has a big heart:
Sure, Emily and I have had our quarrels over the years, but she has one of the biggest hearts I know. She is so caring, so giving. She is always considering how you are feeling. She often overlooks her own feelings. I remember when she was young, she would repeat over and over to our mother, "I love you." While at the time I may have gotten annoyed with the repetition, I look back on that memory and just smile. She has never known any other way. She doesn't have any hate inside her.
10. She is a rare gem:
Emily has a passion for life, for people, will honor God, will respect you. She loves with everything she has. She is beautiful inside and out. Emily, you continue to make me proud and happy to be your sister each day. I cherish you. Chin up. You are a beautiful young woman. The world is at your fingertips. Be bold. Be brave. Shoot for the stars. Nothing is impossible for you. Much love.
