Simple Thoughts About Enjoying The World

So frequently in my life I find myself laughing at those around me who stress about superficial things. From your boyfriend not putting you as his #WCW, to not being able to stalk a person because you ran out of data for the month (three days in...), the societal image is so critical of not-so-critical things. I think to myself about how individuals get so caught up in the unreliable gossip which eventually leads them astray from what truly matters in life. If your phone doesn’t work, your laptop doesn’t work, or the TV doesn’t work, you still should be able to not only function but enjoy the life the world has to offer. Too often are things missed due to your eyes glued to the lighted screen in your hand. Believe me, I’m so guilty of it. Yet, I’m still aware of the effects it has on life and satisfaction. Go out and enjoying the moment is what you’ll miss, not the tweet from a random account.

There is so much truth in the fact of the matter between materialistic things and those of which actually apply to human necessities. All the things people try to acquire throughout their life, it seems, all depend on other people around them. For instance, security, power, status and love all have to do with another person. But in reality, relying on others to make you happy is a dead end road. (Unless, that person is Jesus… then you’re good. He’s got you more than anyone else on earth could.) How about relying on yourself to make yourself happy? Security: powerful when in your own mind you are safe. Power: strong when things don’t work out the way you planned them. Status: thrive in your world and be proud of it. And love: being exactly who you are and not being sorry about how you express yourself. Life isn’t that easy all the time. But if each person strives to be a better version of themselves I know we’d be a more efficient generation for each other and the earth beneath our feet.

I always think that nature individualizes those who treat it well and those who don’t. You will gain more respect and comfort in an area of nature if you are intrigued to find peace within it. That peace within yourself is what you need to find in order to show the true richness of your life. So inclosure, go out and take a picture. Take it and leave it in your albums. Don’t go and post it while you’re still at the place so beautiful enough to take the picture to begin with. You may have used technology for two seconds but likes and comments can wait. Enjoy it. Enjoy the person or dog that you’re with and take memorable pictures that you can look back on and reflect on the beauty. Just don’t be that person who walks through life not seeing the true colors of what God has made for us.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
