While Mercury retrograde is known for its many negative effects, however, there can be positive aspects of this astrological time. The planet of Mercury rules intelligence, memory, and communication. When Mercury goes into retrograde, these aspects of life run haywire. To summarize Mercury retrograde, it is kind of like a midday "siesta:" you slow down and reevaluate your situations of the now. It can be a tremendous period of growth- especially in terms of relationships with yourself and others. Mercury happens to be in retrograde from August 30th- September 22nd. Here are a few simple suggestions to make the most of this Mercury retrograde.

1. Reflect on your past

In order to move forward, you need to move backward. This is a contemplative period, meant for reflection and evaluation. Take a look at your past mistakes and learn from them.

2. Calm down

Wait until Mercury goes direct to make any important decisions. Do NOT start any new projects. If you do, exercise caution because when Mercury is in retrograde, your communication with yourself and your own ideals is not at its full potential.

3. Tell the truth

Be honest and come clean to anybody you have deceived. Mercury rules truth and communication, so the truth WILL be exposed during this time, whether you plan on it or not.

4. Take some action- with caution

Tie up loose ends. This is a perfect time to finish up any projects you have neglected. Clean out that closet! Revise that novel! Fix that leaky faucet!

5. Focus on yourself

Do not take things personally. Communication is severely distorted during this time, so instead of becoming offended by your interpretations of what people have said, go inward. Focus on your own needs and revisit your ideals. This is not to suggest that you become a hermit- simply give people time to self-reflect and decide what they really mean.

6. Say hey to old friends

Reconnect with the past. This is the PERFECT time to catch up with old friends and maybe even rekindle an old flame- but wait until Mercury goes direct to solidify any relationships!

7. Delve into nostalgia

Watch old Nickelodeon cartoons, listen to questionable 90’s pop, engage in your nostalgia- it is a great time to do so! Just as Mercury retrograde is ideal for reconnected with old friends, it’s also a great time to revisit your childhood.

Most people go into hermit mode and avoid technology when Mercury retrograde comes around. This does not have to be the case as long as one exercises caution and embraces the positive aspects of Mercury retrograde!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
