Codependency is usually associated with romantic relationships, but it can happen with your best friend too. Codependent friendships are all-consuming, so much that you probably don't even realize that you're in one right now! So how do you know when you are?
1. You're constantly in contact. Always.
Let's be honest, you would text each other in your sleep if you could.
2. You know where they are at all times.
You can easily list off what your friend will be doing all day and you can even tell someone what they're going to eat for dinner because you discussed it earlier.
3. Boundaries do not exist.
Boundaries exist in most friendships, as they should. But if you're in a codependent friendship you might say "Boundaries? What boundaries?"
4. You never get sick of each other.
When people ask if you get sick of each other, you look completely baffled. How could you get sick of one another?!
5. You cannot make decisions without one another.
You're incapable of making a move without their input.
6. You get jealous of other friends.
When they make a new friend, you feel the need to tell them to back off. Your friend is spoken for, and you do not want to share.
7. You have a higher than normal opinion of each other.
You are convinced that neither of you can do wrong and that you're both perfect.
