Being an athlete is a privilege that not many people have. But that doesn't mean that the life of an athlete is all smiles and roses. It comes with it's perks, but it also comes with many sacrifices, long bus rides and physical fatigue for most of the time. There are certain things that athletes go through that people will never understand. Of course this list isn't all encompassing, but if you're an athlete, most of these are signs that you are an athlete.
1. If you’re a student athlete, you know that at least 75 percent of your clothes are sweat pants and hoodies. It’s a rarity to dress up and when you do, it’s probably for a presentation in a class.
2. If you’re a student athlete, you get used to telling professors you have to miss class for away games.
3. But if you're an athlete, you have tons of make up tests and homework.
3. What happens on away trips stays on away trips.
If you're an athlete, you know that stuff happens on away trips that you will never forget. The inside jokes are endless regular occurrence. Those who aren't athletes will never understand why we laugh at what we do, but they don't have to. The inside jokes are endless.
4. If you're an athlete, getting back from away trips at 3 a.m. is nothing.
5. As an athlete who may or may not have just gotten back at 3 a.m., it can be annoying when non athletes complain about being tired.
6. Or about having no free time...
If you're an athlete, you know that free time is something that is not given very often. So when someone talks about having no free time, it's hard to believe them.
7. If you're an athlete you get used to telling people you can't hang out because of practice.
8. If you're an athlete, getting a "no practice" text can be exhilarating.
9. But after realizing you have no life outside of your sport, you just decide to go play it anyways.
10. If you're an athlete, you get used to your teammates being pretty much your only friends.
11. Sororities and fraternities are cool and all, but if you're an athlete, there's nothing like wearing a real jersey.
12. If you're an athlete, hydrating is always necessary, and that water has to go somewhere.
13. Also as an athlete, hunger is something that never fully goes away. So when someone ask if you're hungry, your natural response is, "always."
14. But even though you're always hungry, finding time to eat is a different story.
15. If you're an athlete, it seems that no matter what happens, an argument about whose sports team is better always breaks out.
16. Probably the most assured sign that you're an athlete, is that whenever your coach says, "get on the line," you know what's coming.
17. You could be an athlete if you have many superstitions, like warming up the same way for years at a time.
18. And last but not least, the worst part of being an athlete is probably the fact that professors expect us to pay attention in class on game day.
There's no better feeling than playing in a game, as an athlete. But having to go to class and wait all day for a big game, you know that there is nothing that will ever get your attention.
