Signs You Were Raised Filipino

1. When you're at family parties, you struggle to keep up with the family gossip and shade thrown in tagalog.

2. Your parents enforced the rule of "no boypren".

3. So, naturally, you probably had a secret boyfriend.

4. Even though this was a universal rule, every family member would ask if you had a boyfriend.

5. You're used to your Mom pointing with her lips instead of her fingers.

6. Your parents either go through every one of your siblings' names before your own name.

7. But for the most part, your parents call you anak.

8. You still have trouble remembering the name of all your cousins(blood-related and not blood-related), so you resort to just calling them "Ate" or "Kuya".

9. Family party? You mean drunken karaoke night?

10. Saying no to karaoke is like stabbing your Mom in the heart.

11. You secretly loved karaoke.

12. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner isn't complete without "kanin".

13. Your Mom lectures you for becoming "americanized".

14. At the beginning of every family party, your aunts tell you that you've gained weight.

15. Later, at that same party, those aunts tell you to get more food on your plate.

16. Someone in your immediate family is a nurse.

17. Your curfew was 9PM even though you left at 7PM.

18. You're over 20 years old, and your curfew is still 9PM.

19. Running to the filipino store meant stocking up on pancit canton and begging your Mom for halo-halo.

20. Bringing your non-Filipino friends to a Filipino party means answering the pressing questions: "is that a roasted pig?" and "what is the chocolate in the chocolate meat?"

21. You literally always smell like food.

22. The fear of walking out of the house and smelling like residual tuyo is always at an all time high.

23. You know better than to NOT "mano"/"bless" your elders.

24. Walking around the house without tsinelas is a grave sin.

25. A Pacquaio fight was treated as a national holiday.

26. Miss Philippines winning Miss Universe this past year shook up everyone in your family.

27. You know that family is over everything.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
