When you read this article, a certain someone will probably come to your mind, and you'll tell yourself "Wow, this is about them."
Maybe you're in love with this person.
Maybe you're best friends.
Maybe you need time alone.
Or ..maybe you just simply want to make the best decision for YOU.
Whoever this person is, you just came to the realization that your life would be better without them in it. Here are some hints that will make it clear to you that you need to let this person go:
1. You're the only person who puts in time and effort.
This is something that a person can only realize when it's constant. For example, if this occurs for 2 or 3 times, you don't realize it and maybe they actually are busy like they said they were. But once you realize that you're the one who constantly tries to hang with the person and your messages get ignored, you should consider if there actually is a reason behind it or they just simply don't mean much to you.
2. Things are not how they used to be when you first met.
Maybe everything was rainbows and butterflies when you met them and you can't let of the memories. It's important to separate the two, that the person in your memories is not the person they are now. Ask yourself if they changed, or maybe they were like that when you first met them too but you didn't know them well enough to know. Or maybe you made the person up in your head and you're trying to make them fit into that delusional figure, and in reality they are not who you want them to be.
3. The friendship/relationship actually hurts you.
This one varies from person to person, because this has different degrees of emotional abuse. But if you find yourself crying, or stressing out about this person and their actions, don't let them control you in future. Realize that it's not necessary.
4. They do not contribute any positivity, encouragement or happiness to your life.
When a good thing happens in your life, a friend/significant other should be able to encourage you even more and motivate you. If not, then what is the point of being friends with anyone? If they do not make you happy, or aspire you to be a better person, why are they in your life, or how are they contributing?
5. There is no trust.
It's important to be straightforward and honest. When the person cancels plans on you, you get a certain instinct or vibe that what they said could be a lie: this is when you know you do not trust this person anymore. What sucks even more is maybe you actually got ready, and were in hopes of spending time with this person because you thought they were worth your time. If there is a point where their explanation as to why they hurt you whether it's cancelling plans or just simply lying - it's time to let this toxic person go.
6. They reply to your texts in a matter of days, when you actually look forward to hearing from them.
Let's admit it: we're constantly on our phones. Unless something actually came up, it's time to realize this person is actually just ignoring you. They could update their status, post a picture on Instagram/Snapchat but they can't simply reply to your text? Maybe they're forgetful but if this happens constantly, it's time to realize they're not into the relationship/friendship as you are.
Communication really is key when it comes to things like this. If you think it's something you guys can solve, then you should definitely try to. But what I'm trying to say is if even after trying to solve, the person stays the same and does not make an effort, it's time to let go; "The biggest apology is changed behavior". Life is not a game. You do not need to chase anyone, or be chased or try to solve puzzles and get 'hints' from people, this is why we have mouths and something called "communication". Realize you're not someone's backup or 'go-to' when they're bored. You deserve people who spend the same amount of energy and time as you do, and you should not settle for anything less than that. Why let someone who always belittles you and does not help you become the best person you could be in your life? It's cliché, but life really is too short to keep those who cause you unnecessary stress when you could be putting that energy into something way more productive.
