Do you ever feel older than your actual age? Do you prefer a night in with a bottle of wine and television rather than a night out of town? Do you have an endless supply of hard candies at all times? If so, than you might be an old soul. The old soul tends to stick to themselves, be more empathetic, and appreciate the less materialistic things in life. An old soul is often a rarity. Here are just some of the signs that you might be an old soul.
You feel older than you actually are
It’s not that you yourself are old, but your mannerisms and the way you carry yourself make you feel like a grandparent. You go to bed early and wake up early. Going out on a Friday night just doesn’t seem to spark your interests. You would much rather stay home, curl up with a book, and listen to soothing music.
You tend to have a stronger appreciation for Knowledge, Art, and Wisdom
Museums, art shows, and more; these are the types of places you can see yourself getting lost in for hours. You like to learn new things, especially more when you’re not required to. The more you learn and experience and know helps you understand others. Your appreciation for many topics and your endless pit of knowledge makes you a deeper and more understanding human being.
You can have long talks about anything
You know so much and can talk about anything. Old souls love having deep and interesting conversations with others. They do not have types of conversations in groups however. Old souls tend to thrive more in one-on-one conversations over groups. Old souls love connecting with others face-to-face.
Alone time is a virtue
A day out usually consists of long walks alone. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you are lonely, rather than you just like to spend time by yourself. You can spend literally hours alone just thinking. You like to contemplate to yourself. You observe the people around you. You like to explore and wander aimlessly. This brings you to new places with a new surrounding and to new people.
You prefer print over electronic any day
Kindles? How about no! We have gone centuries, millenniums, without technology and eBooks! The old soul cannot focus on a screen. Novels are best left on ink and paper. They feel that the hard copy is part of the experience; holding its spine, turning the pages, and smelling the ink on the pages. Besides, bookshelves really class up a place.
You can be pretty old-fashioned when it comes to dating
Online dating is just not for you. You think that the best way to meet someone is by physically talking to them and it doesn’t stop there. Old souls tend to go with a more formal approach when it comes to asking a person out. They ask them in person. No sliding into those ‘DMs’ or ‘hittin’ them up on Tinder’. FYI, if you try to ask out an old soul via internet or text than you are probably going to get a rejection.
Being an old soul is pretty much like being Steve Rogers when he tries to adjust to the twenty-first century. Old souls are truly a rarity and they are hard to find. They keep to themselves and watch others like a wallflower. They understand and accept others just the way they are. If you know an old soul then hug them and protect them at all cost. They are the kindest people you will ever meet. I am so grateful for all of the old souls in my life, and I am glad that I am one myself.
