Finding a roommate is an awkward process. Living with your roommate is even more awkward... well at least it is at first. You go from being complete strangers to changing, sleeping, and living your whole life just a few feet away from each other. If you don't get friendly quick, then you might be out of luck.
Freshman year was weird. It should be weird for everyone. You ask for permission about everything and you are always so aware that another person is in the same room. A few years later, and it's like they aren't even there. You go from having a roommate to having an extended part of yourself.
Here are 10 signs your roommate has become not just a roommate, but the other half of you:
1. You don't ask for permission to turn the lights on/off anymore.
They are okay with it (usually).
2. There's no need to be quiet when the other person is napping.
If we have something to say, we'll start talking until the other person opens their eyes.
3. You go shopping with the other person's style in mind.
Remember the days you'd be nervous to ask to borrow a shirt?
4. You have group chats with each other's moms.
So much easier to remember to answer when there's two of you...
5. It's all honesty all the time.
Keeping the peace was so two years ago.
6. "How was your day?" gets way too real and sometimes too graphic.
Nothing phases you anymore so it's ok.
7. It's not just encouraged but normal to talk in a screaming voice and different accents.
We may just be weird with this one.
8. When one of you gets upset, you know exactly how to react.
Depending on the kind of tears that are flowing, you either approach for a hug or stay silent for 20 minutes.
9. You let her dye your hair.
No one touches it but Cindy at home.
10. You don't tiptoe around to get ready in the morning.
Sometimes you have to wake them up to make sure you are matching.
11. You don't care to interrupt their Netflix show.
A boy holding a door for you that day will always be 1,000 times more important than any finale of any show.
