Signs Of A Tired College Student

Somehow, you've made it this far without yet getting a full eight hours of sleep.

Are you drinking coffee or have dark circles under your eyes? Is your posture slightly slumped from exhaustion? Are you close to falling asleep in the library? Well then you just might have it- Tired College Student Syndrome. Careful, it’s contagious.

Signs of Tired College Student Syndrome include:

Unwillingness to get out of bed in the morning, or in the afternoon, after that two hour nap you didn’t mean to take. Oops. But why go outside when your bed is warm and comfy? Of course, besides that pesky going to class thing.

Dark circles under the eyes. You can’t seem to get rid of them, and you swear that every month they get a just a tad darker.

A deep love for coffee. Honestly, anything with caffeine is fine. When someone asks you if you have a caffeine addiction, you hold your head up high and proudly deny it. And then head to the nearest coffee shop.

Drooping eyelids during class or while studying. Watch out, because this one can hit you anytime, any place. It may be tempting, but I highly recommend not giving in during class. Turns out, professors don’t appreciate that.

Trouble putting sentences together, even the most simple ones. This one usually happens around night time, after a full day of classes, studying, and extracurriculars. Somehow you can’t get the words from your brain to your mouth correctly, and usually ends with weird looks from those around you.

A slightly hunched posture- mostly from carrying your backpack around everywhere. Whoever says that the MacBook Air feels like it weighs nothing is a liar. After walking some distance, and walking up three flights of stairs, it feels as though you’re carrying around five textbooks instead of just one.

Daydreaming about the next time you get to be in bed. When the professor is talking about the history of- something (you must’ve been zoning out again), your thoughts can’t help but wander to when you get to climb into bed again. Especially when you think about how late you were up the night before typing an essay.

And the worse of them all- the desire to stay up unnecessarily late almost everyday. It’s eleven at night? Oh good, that means it’s early. There’s still time for easy mac and looking at flashcards while simultaneously watching Netflix on your laptop.

How do you cure Tired College Student Syndrome? Easy, just wait for a break and you’ll most likely lose most symptoms. But beware- once you catch it, it’s way too easy to get it again. And it will probably happen again.

But it’s okay, because you have coffee.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register.
