Thanks to a good friend of mine, I met my current boyfriend five months ago. Because I'm bad at math, I thought he was only two years older than me when in reality he actually has four years on me.
1. "Is that your boyfriend or your dad?"
Yes. I actually have gotten asked this on Instagram pictures. Usually from guys that I didn't end up dating.
Because yes, of course, I'd take a picture kissing my father! Of course I'd caption it with heart emojis! You have brains, people. Use them.
2. You can't get into bars with them.
My boyfriend and his friends want to go to a club or bar? I'll wait outside. Have fun!
3. They have full time jobs while you dread your part-time job.
I sit next to my boyfriend and complain about working a four hour shift while he works eight hour days... oops.
4. They have all these financial responsibilities you've never heard of like... bills and stuff.
What's a mortgage payment? How do you take out a loan? Why didn't I get a tax return?
5. You have a personal electrician, handy-man, and technician.
Broken doorknob? Don't know how to change a tire? It's OK, having a boyfriend with a couple years on you has its perks.
6. They can drink around your family before you can.
When your boyfriend goes out to dinner with my family, they talk about the drink menu while I have a very easy decision. I'll take a water, please.
7. You're dating someone who just might be smarter than you.
Girls are used to maturing quicker than guys. When you date somebody older, the maturity levels balance out. Sometimes, you might even be wrong.
8. You have your personal guide for all things college.
Don't know what a mysterious "blue book" is? Can't find a building on campus? Ask your boyfriend, he's done it before. He's like your own Google that you get to cuddle.
As much as we may like to give our older boyfriends grief for their age, they help us out with a lot and their experience comes in handy. I would've have experienced half the things I did this year without my boyfriend, so I owe him for that.
Besides, the older they are the sooner you can get married (this is a joke, Josh, calm down).
