Sick College Student? DON'T Come To Class!!!

I'd really rather not get your freshman plague

Dear contagious sick person(s) sitting next to me in class, I really dislike you.

We've all been there...you wake up before class to get ready for the day ahead and all of a sudden you feel like you're dying. Whether it's a sore throat, cough, or upset stomach you have to decide whether missing class is worth it, or if you would even be allowed to take a sick day...Isn't that a crazy concept, college students going to class sick SOLELY because their course syllabus says that they can only miss one class without being penalized...But you know what, I don't care what the syllabus says, you're definitely not going to get better if you run around campus all day, and you're most likely going to get ME sick... which I'd much rather avoid!

I choose to avoid situations which are likely to get me sick, not because I prefer to live in a little bubble, but because I hate putting my life on hold for three days because I'm sick and can't breathe through my nose. So I'd really appreciate it if you did us both a favor, and stayed home when you're sick.

If you stay home you'll be able to get the rest that you need, AND you won't be infecting the rest of the class with your germs. Don't worry about what your professor thinks or what your syllabus says, you can't help that you got sick during the week. At the end of the day, your health is most important, not your class attendance for one or two days.

Also, to the new freshmen on campus, I know that being in college is fun and you want to take advantage of your new found freedom...but that doesn't mean that you should go out and party when you're sick, or infect your entire residence hall.

Even though I'm a senior, I'm sure I'm passing by a freshman at some point in the day, and even sitting in a desk that a sick freshman was sitting in earlier...Please be smart and don't infect the entire campus just because you have FOMO...

I really don't want your freshman plague.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
