The term 'sí se puede,' commonly used in Spanish-speaking countries, is a statement used to boost spirits and morals among friends and family, or used to rally individuals up. 'Sí se puede' means 'yes we can' or 'we can do it.' This is a statement we students need to keep in mind during this school year as we struggle to do great work, sleep, and find a way to create balance.
The first week of classes just passed and for many students, it is obvious that there is much work to be done this semester. For many students, the first month of classes can be horrifying as we struggle to get back into the rhythm of school. In these early stages of adjustment it is easy to forget that we are not alone. Many students across the country feel the struggle of keeping up grades and staying sane. However, do not be alarmed!
1. ALL IS AND WILL BE WELL!!

Life does get out of control. However, we can handle it well by taking a deep breath, and allowing positive statements to shower our minds. The saying, "you are what you eat," can also be applicable in the sense that we are what we think. Positive thinking greatly affects performance and does wonders for our mental health. Always remembering that all is and will be well can be very helpful! Allow positive statements like,” All is well,” “I can do it,” “I am a capable, smart, and amazing person,” to help you feel more prepared in days that we feel overwhelmed. It might sound and feel silly but positive reinforcements do wonders for the brain, and after a while you will start to really believe all is well!
2. YES I CAN!
President Barack Obama’s motto, while running for presidential candidacy in 2008 was, “yes we can!” Many people around the world genuinely believed he could do it! That is the same ideology we students need to remember. Yes, we can do it! While overwhelmed and stressed it's easy to forget that fact. But listening to motivational music, posters, writing, even leaving yourself a post it note inside your textbook or in your folders saying “yes I can” will always remind you of how capable, awesome, and amazing you are. Always remember yes you can! Yes you can get through that difficult task, and yes you can get through that biology, chemistry, or physics class. Constantly repeat, “Yes I can!” “Yes I can!” “Yes I can!” Proclaiming this statement to yourself everyday will make an amazing difference.
Try this: Once a day spend 30 seconds saying positive statements to yourself.
Try this: Leave postcards and notes for yourself, reminding yourself how amazing and capable you are.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER. We are a community of students. Let us not be afraid to reach out to each other and help each other in times of trouble. Lend a helping hand, because together ...
