Finals week is here, and you can almost taste Winter Break. Finally, you’ll have all the time in the world to sate your inner geek. Here are five geeky delights to look forward to this winter.
1. “Jessica Jones”
This latest TV show by Marvel just premiered on Netflix, and Winter Break is made for binge watching. The series follows the titular character as she ends her superhero career and becomes a private investigator. Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones, who faces off against Kilgrave, an enemy from her past, played by David Tennant. If you love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this is a can’t-miss series.
2. “Doctor Who” Christmas Special
Finally, the meeting we’ve all been waiting for will come to pass—it’s time for River Song to meet the Twelfth Doctor. Over the past several weeks, Steven Moffat has released information about the special; most notably, that River does not recognize her husband with his new face. Nevertheless, the combination of Twelve and River is sure to be a treat to see.
3. “Sherlock” Christmas Special
Looks like we won’t have to wait as long as we thought for more “Sherlock,” though this episode is not the start of the much desired fourth season. Instead, the episode takes the characters back to the nineteenth century, when the stories originally took place. The Christmas special, officially titled “The Abominable Bride,” focuses on a case briefly mentioned in Doyle’s stories, though never fully fleshed out. Get ready for a delightful Gothic mystery this winter.
4. “Lego Marvel’s Avengers”
Love Marvel? Love those charming Lego video games? Then this is the present for you. The game features story-lines from “The Avengers,” “The Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and many more of Marvel’s movies. Sadly, the game won’t be released until January 26th, too late for Winter Break. Think of it as a treat to help you stay sane as you prepare to start a new semester.
5. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”
The moment we’ve all been waiting for is almost here. “The Force Awakens” is the newest installment in the “Star Wars” series, and features a mixture of new and old cast members. It takes place 30 years after “Return of the Jedi,” but little else is currently known about the plot. While some are skeptical of how this latest movie will hold up to its predecessors, each new photo and trailer has successfully ramped up excitement. “Star Wars VII” will definitely be the event of the season.
