What happened in Orlando should never happen again. Discrimination in this country is too heavy for words. I made the above video to support those who have been affected by these tragic events. The sight of mothers grieving over the loss of their children simply because of a way of life that they lived, is heartbreaking.
One thing that people seem to forget is that when anyone messes with a nation of headstrong people, those people fight back with everything they have. It may have been a hard blow to take, but Orlando can bounce back from this with enough willpower to last a lifetime.
Being a person with many friends and some family members who are a part of the LGBTQA+ community, I do not see how you can actually view them different. When people begin to see others as humans and not with the many labels that society forces us to wear, that is when peace can reign over this land and judgment can be a thing for the history books. It is up to this generation to teach our children to love and accept and enter the world with an open mind. Then and only then can everyone feel secure and safe.
It is said that we live in the "land of the free," but it is harder to see, in today's times, who the "free" really are.
Are the "free" the fat men at the top of the financial food chain who bankroll the businesses of their choice? Or are they the ones dangling, living pay check to paycheck who, by the grace of whatever God they choose to serve, IF they choose to serve, still have a glimmer of hope to hold on to the piece of the "American Dream" that everyone's speaks of? That is the true questions this massacre brings up: "Who are the 'Free'?"
If everyone around the country and even around the world can take some time to reflect on themselves, we can unleash our own freedom. No matter where we live and once we all decide to be free, there is nothing that can hold us back. I include to myself in this group, as a supporter of HUMANS. No, I am not personally a participating member of the LGBTQA+ community, but being heterosexual shouldn't allow me the pleasures of separate sets of freedoms and privileges. If that be the case, how can one really enjoy what they are given?
Pulse Nightclub will be remembered as a story of grief and rebuilding. As a group of people stand up for their rights and band together to stop the spread of hatred throughout this nation. Let each individual citizen realize that hatred is a learned behavior, not a natural instinct. No one is born with the innate nature to despise anything. With the excessive expression of hate in the actions that took place that night, it is clear to see that fear of one's own ignorance on a subject can often bring about malicious emotions and negative behaviors. Knowledge will forever be power and until we, as a people, effectively use our knowledge, the question of "Who are the 'Free'?" will forever be eminent.
Rest In Peace to all the victims, and keep fighting to all the survivors.
