Sometimes we forget to tell the most important people how thankful we are for them and why, so here is a special shout out to you, Mom and Dad.
Dear Mom and Dad,
Shout out to you. You have put up with me for the last twenty years, that is pretty awesome considering some days I am not sure if I can even stand myself because I am so indecisive with anything and everything. I can barely decide what to wear for the day and here I am, away at college, trying to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.
For as long as I can remember, you have done everything possible in order for me to reach my goals, to reach my dreams. Even though my dreams changed from month to month, maybe even week to week, you always supported me. You supported me when I wanted to change my major, when I wanted to add another major, and change the first major.. again. You supported me when I wanted to play basketball in college, and then helped me see the positive when I no longer had the choice to play in college anymore.
You taught me that it could always be worse, so many other individuals have it worse then I do, that if I think positive thoughts, positive things will happen in my life, that if I continue to reach for my dreams, I will reach them, to not let other people's negativity bring me down, not to harp on my mistakes but to grow from them, to learn from them, to always make the best of what I have and so many more things. But these are the values that I carry with me every single day.
Mom, just know that I adore you like no other. You are and forever will be my absolute best friend. It is considered to be an odd day if we have not talked on the phone three time, along with texting all day. The texting goes from sending you a picture of what I am wearing, usually you telling me that I need to stop wearing old lady sweaters, to how boring my class was, what I did at the gym, how exciting my event was, quotes and so many more things.
You push me to be a better me each and everyday, even when I do not believe in myself. You support me whenever I studying all week for an exam and still didn't get that A, I can count on you to say well did you do your best?, well then that is what matters and just keep improving. I can count on you to answer my FaceTime at one in the morning to tell you something funny that I did or one of my friends did, or to just call you crying because I feel like you are the only one who gets me. Thank you, mom, for all that you do for me.
Dad, just know that I admire you and that I will forever be your little girl even when I am away at school. I know I can count on you to give me a good laugh when its a bad day, to help me embrace the good moments, and to help me embarrass myself and laugh about it. I can always count on you to make the tough days a little better by just smiling at me, making a joke or giving me a big hug. Whenever I see you, you know the first thing I will do is call you old man, or pops, and look for one of your hugs. I can always count on you to say embarrassing things, do embarrassing things, and just be absolutely ridiculous the first time you meet my boyfriend, and if he sticks around, I can count on you to say he is a keeper and that you will now go buy him a beer. Thank you for always looking out for me when I do not even believe I need it.
Now that I have made you both cry by saying things you hear already or saying somethings you would have never expected, know I love you each and every day with my entire heart. Know that I remember everything you have taught me and am using that in my everyday life.
Love always,
Your little girl
