Each day we hear more about the Kardashians than about something serious that is going on around the world. Why is it that people are more interested in what celebrities and reality television stars are doing? Shouldn't we care more about the real life issues that affect our country and planet every day? It seems logical that we would care more about current events rather than what Kim Kardashian looks like when she's pregnant, but clearly there is a reason that this article is being written. Everyday we see new stories about celebrities, and sometimes they even over shadow issues that are really important.
I myself am guilty of paying more attention to what goes on with celebrities than what is being shown on the news. Even on the news you see stories about celebrities, and in my opinion keep those stories for TMZ and stick to the real issues at hand. I may seem hypocritical in writing this, but recently I've seen this as an issue that really needs to be addressed. We focus so much of our energy in following celebrities like the Kardashian's, but imagine if we took the energy it put it towards school, current events, or politics. When it comes to politics we would certainly have more educated voters, which is what this country needs with the upcoming election.
As we continue to grow as a society and country I think it's time that we gear the focus of what's important away from television, movies, music, etc. It's time that our generation tries to make a change and show interest in other things besides the Kardashians or other reality television shows. Especially now with the elections coming up, young voters should be more informed about the candidates than whether or not Kim's butt is real. Our country can't grow and prosper with an outlook like this. Why is it that they get more coverage than current events? Is it okay for that to be happening? These are questions that have personal answers, and mine is no. We should be focusing on more serious matters going on throughout the world.
