There's been a lot of heat surrounding the 2016 presidential election. Initially, there was tight competition for nominations for the GOP and DNC candidates. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton eventually came out on top in their respective parties. The big question now is who will be their running mates. In my opinion, everyone should forget about Donald and Hillary picking vice presidential candidates and focus on the politician who should really be Commander-in-Chief of the United States Military: Leslie Knope.
1. She cares about the people.
Both Trump and Clinton seem to have their own agendas. Trump is constantly on a tirade that seems to mainly perpetuate his personal beliefs or further his coverage in the news, thereby inflating his already inflated ego. And, rarely does a day goes by when there is not something in the news tied to Clinton's email scandal in which she blatantly disregarded rules in favor of personal convenience. Leslie Knope, on the other hand, is focused entirely on what is best for the people. She wants to make schools better, streets safer, and develop a more progressive tax on residential properties. She is also dedicated to decreasing obesity and making buildings more accessible to handicapped individuals. For a full list of causes she supports, click here.
2. She has always dreamed of being president.
Donald Trump seems to have simply stumbled across the presidential election. For over 40 years, Trump was a businessman, not a politician. Suddenly, in 2015, Trump announced that he would be running for president. That does not sound like the story of a man who has dreamed of being president since the time that he was a little boy.
3. She knows what she wants.
First Trump was a strong, liberal Democrat. Now essentially all of his opinions have done a 180 and he is a fairly conservative Republican. What happened? Since when does a grown man suddenly change his mind about all of his beliefs? Plus, he can't seem to make up his mind. It seems like every time he is interviewed, he contradicts something he said in his last interview. Likewise, Clinton is a chameleon. The closer she gets to the White House, the less clear her policy platforms become. Leslie, however, is a firm believer in her policies and has shown time and time again that she will stand her ground, regardless of how many people oppose her and stand in her way. Her dedication was extraordinarily clear when she filibustered, even though she was wearing roller skates and missing her husband's birthday party.
4. She is a conservative spender.
Four of Trump's businesses have filed for bankruptcy. Is that what will happen to the US if he takes over the job of president? The Clintons are lavish spenders. As long as they are spending within their means, this certainly isn't an issue, but will Hillary be used to spending within a budget? Leslie, who has been living well on the small salary of a government official for years, would definitely be able to keep to a budget and would never sell out.
5. She even has great publicity.
This one might be the simplest. Trump and Clinton's PR teams are simply incapable of putting on a Knope-level campaign. They don't have Andy and Duke Silver writing music for their campaigns, nor do they have videos from their childhood in which they are discussing their passion for improving the nation.
