In recent news, Americans have been outraged by practices performed by Planned Parenthood. A few of these practices were revealed through secret video, and some might call them barbaric or even illegal. Because of this, the Senate called forth a bill to move legislation of defunding Planned Parenthood forward.
On Aug. 3, 2015, the Senate voted against advancing legislation to end federal funding of Planned Parenthood. The motion was seven short of the 60 required votes to move this legislation forward. Fifty-three Senate members (51 Republican and two Democrat) voted in favor of this bill, while 46 members (43 Democrat, two Independent, and one Republican) voted against it. Senator Lindsay Graham (R) was not present to vote.
This is why I believe the Senate should revisit Bill 1881:
Planned Parenthood's website proudly states that, "80 percent of our clients receive services to prevent unintended pregnancy," and that they, "help prevent approximately 516,000 unintended pregnancies each year." Of course, not all of these preventative services are abortions: 327,000 out of the 516,000 yearly "preventions" were abortions in 2014. While Planned Parenthood does offer services other than abortion, the truth behind every Planned Parenthood door is that Margaret Sanger, the woman who founded Planned Parenthood, strongly supported and believed in eugenics while actively participating with the Ku Klux Klan. Here are a few quotes from Sanger:
"We do not want the world to know that we want to exterminate the Negro population." - 1939.
So is Planned Parenthood racist? African Americans make up only 13 percent of the female population of America, but account for about 35 percent of abortions. Did you know that more African Americans have died from abortion than AIDS, accidents, violent crimes, cancer, and heart disease combined? Yes, these women have the free will to choose whether they will keep their baby or abort, but Planned Parenthood has placed 80 percent of their facilities in minority neighborhoods and continue to do so today. Do you believe this is coincidental?
"I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world." - 1957.
Sanger publicly admitted that she believed procreation was a sin, so it may seem as though she supported the end of the human race. The truth is, Sanger openly stated that she believed it was "necessary to establish a system of birth permits." The 'sin' she is most likely referring to is bringing what she believes to be unfit children into the world. She even referred to these children as human weeds.
One of the biggest Pro Choice arguments is that women who are raped should be able to abort the baby because it was conceived in violence. According to Abort73.com, only 1 percent of women receiving abortions reported that they were raped. Guttmacher Institute (AGI) surveyed women to determine the three most common reasons for abortion; their survey came with mixed results. Seventy-five percent were worried about the child interfering with work, and, additionally, 75 percent claimed they could not afford the child. Fifty percent also said they did not want to be a single parent or were having problems at home. It is apparent that some women selected more than one answer. Megyn Kelly, a Fox News reporter, asked a thought provoking question at this year's Republican primary debate: "How do you justify ending a life just because it begins violently through no fault of the baby?"
In some of the previously mentioned videos, Planned Parenthood staffers were seen encouraging and assisting in sex selection abortions. This practice is known to have been taking place in the U.S. since the legalization of abortion in 1973. Mara Hvistendahl's book "Unnatural Selection" states that an estimated 200 million baby girls have lost their lives to sex selection abortion worldwide. According to U.S. Census data and national vital statistics, this type of abortion is a growing problem in the U.S.; the American Economic Association (AEA) has presented evidence that thousands of baby girls have been victims of sex selection abortions in the U.S. alone. Talk about war on women!
And what about the baby's right to life? The Declaration of Independence states that, "All men are created," not born, "equal." Marco Rubio and Mike Huckabee stated that they believe abortion is unconstitutional. Huckabee defended this claim by stating that abortion violates the fifth and fourteenth amendments:
"No person shall be... deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law."
Who is to represent an unborn child in a court of law? Unborn children, who are unable to speak for themselves, are unable to receive due process because they cannot truly represent themselves.
"No state shall... deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."
The equal protection clause was made to ensure the lowest of citizens receives the same protection of the laws as the highest of citizens (ie: presidents, like Clinton, can be and have been tried in the court of law, and are expected to follow the same laws as the average citizen). An unborn child has no voice, but still deserves the same rights any American citizen is granted. Our law has already identified unborn children as humans: if a person murders a pregnant woman, they are accounted for two acts of murder. Why, then, do we suddenly strip the most defenseless human beings of their humanity when it comes to abortion?
DNA is present from the moment of conception. The one thing that makes up who we are, the one thing that makes us human, is there from the start. Unborn babies are human from the very beginning, and, according the US Constitution, abortion should be illegal.
There are other options out there other than Planned Parenthood. Pregnancy Helpline is one of the many 'hotlines' you can contact when considering abortion. If you are a woman considering abortion and have made it through this entire article, please consider contacting their number: (608)-755-9739 or visiting their website. These people are here to help and talk you through all of your options. One life saved or one mind changed means I achieved my intended purpose with this article.
Adoption is the option.
