Why You Should Leave Your Comfort Zone

It's so easy to get into a habit. Wake up, eat, go to work, hang out with your same friends and do the same things. It's easy and you don't have to change anything to go about your routine except maybe times and places.

But why do the same thing over and over again when there are so many other things to do in life? By breaking out of your comfort zone and daily routine, you can get so much more out of life. While having a routine is comfortable, it doesn't hurt to change it every once in awhile. This doesn't mean you have to get completely new friends and do completely new things that are crazy, but just going out of your way to invite different people to hang out could really make a big difference. They could end up being the people that you've needed in your life to make it better. By going out of your comfort zone and making new friends, you could really be gaining your best friends. And isn't that worth a little bit of awkwardness at first? You bet it is.

Or even just do something new for a change. Hang out with the same friends, but instead of just going to Starbucks and getting coffee or watching Netflix, go do something productive or fun. Head to the beach to relax together and maybe read a book. Or even take a road trip to places you've never been before. Doing new things that break your normal habits may seem like a hassle, but when you're doing them with your best friends, you could be having the time of your life.

Too often, people let routines take over their lives because it's the "easy way." People think why change something if it makes sense or if they've been doing it for so long. Well, the answer is to break out of your comfort zone. The only thing staying in your comfort zone does is make things easy. By changing your lifestyle even in the slightest way, you could really be changing your whole life in a big way. Don't let the simplicity of a routine keep you from trying new things, you'll regret it.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
