Why You Should Chase Your Dreams

Day in and day out we question what it is that we are supposed to be doing. We constantly scrutinize how we spend our time and how that will make a difference. Many of us still have yet to discover our passion. Maybe we should take a step back and breathe. I’ve been told many times that life is about making life easier for the people around us. Of course in a world where no two brains are the same, we tend to feel pulled towards our own interest. Perhaps getting caught up in greed.

  1. Listen to your gut feeling. There seems to always be that one family member or friend who tells us what career path to go into. Usually, it’s because they wish they had taken that path or they are just telling you what career path will bring you wealth.
  2. Do something you find interest in. Most of the time work is not fun and games regardless, but do what you enjoy learning about. Even if it is challenging or stressful at times, you will be growing with knowledge each day.
  3. Don’t choose a career based on the average salary. While everyone has been told not to go into a career for the money, thousands of college kids continue to do this every year. No surprise that they end up coming out of school and still not being sure of what they really want out of life.
  4. There’s nothing stopping you. If you think staying where you are because you’re tied to a job or even an emotional attachment is reason enough to dismiss your dream life, you’re mistaken. Jobs can be replaced and detachment is liberating. Maybe you’ll lose a little money or be a kinda sad at first, but if it’s to pursue what you’re heart wants to follow it’s worth every penny.
  5. There’s success to be found in every career choice. It’s just a matter of how we present ourselves. An employer may see that you have a good GPA but would probably be more impressed with your level of excitement and will to improve.
  6. Time. While it’s important to stay calm and breathe in the essence of life, we must accept that we will always be running out of time. So don’t freak out. Just focus. What was a time when you felt really involved in something a person was telling you? Why did you find so much interest in that subject? Maybe it involved the discovery of something new, or helping others.

After all, we are only given one life to do what we were met to do. Let the pressure of what everyone thinks you’re supposed to do mold into what you love to do. Everything will work itself out as soon as you let it. You haven’t truly failed until you give up on something you actually like. When plans don’t work out they weren’t meant to. We are constantly growing through our disappointments and that’s okay. In the end, only you know what is genuinely right for you so shut out the outside voices and listen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
