I stopped growing taller in the 8th grade which seems pretty normal, but I stopped growing at the height of 5'2. While there have been plenty of times that I wish I could've been just a little taller, I have learned to appreciate my height or the lack thereof. Here are a few things anyone who is short than some dogs will understand.
1. Having to climb onto a cabinet to reach a top shelf
Sometimes you just have to find way around just being able to reach the top shelf without effort and have to make yourself a makeshift ladder.
2. Finally reaching what you needed after people around you doubted you
For example, I used a back scrub to get luffas that were too high on a shelf. It was quite an accomplishment.
3. Almost everyone is taller so hugs are great
I mean, does this one even need to be explained?
4. You easily look younger
When visiting places and you're with family members or even friends, you are usually offered kid's price.
5. Kid's clothes = save money
Especially kids shoes, they're cheaper and last longer. Plus, you get so much more variety! Do you want bright shoes? Business clothes? There is no limit. It's a win-win.
6. People automatically assuming your ID is fake
My favorite example of this is when I went to buy spray paint and the cashier looked at my ID for five minutes until she finally let me buy the paint. Or when I gave a man at the airport my passport and he continued to ask my age because he thought I was at least 4 years younger than I am.
7. Having to buy ridiculously tall heels so you don't have to hem dresses
One of the worst things when it comes to formal events. You either get extremely tall heels or go to someone to get the dress hemmed. Neither are great.
8. Not having to worry that those heels are too tall
Because the majority of people will still be a few inches taller than you even with 6-inch heels on.
9. Tall people thinking your height makes for a convenient armrest
I don't use you as a step stool so please stop now.
10. Elementary children being taller than you
I help at children's camps every summer and hardly ever are any of my group shorter or my size. I got mistaken for a student multiple times.
These are just a few of the things almost everyone my size has dealt with at least once in their lifetimes. While sometimes I may hate being the short friend in the group, I wouldn't trade it for anything.
