I'm a huge fan of Taylor Swift's older music that had more of a country vibe. However, that's not to say that I don't love a lot of her new songs because I do. One of my all time favorite songs by T-Swift is "The Best Day." It depicts who my mom is to me-- it's my mom in a country song. People will probably think I'm overly emotional when I say this, and I don't care-- this song always brings me to tears. It doesn't bring me to tears just because it's a heartfelt song. It brings me to tears because it's what I've wanted to tell my mom, but never have-- "I had the best day with you today."
"I'm five years old. It's getting cold. I've got my big coat on. I hear you laugh and look up smiling at you."
It's no secret that I look up to my mom. She's my biggest role model, and I'm not lying when I say that. The only thing I've ever really wanted to be in life is a mom. And, I blame that all on her because she is, quite literally, the best mom ever. I hear her laugh, and I smile because I know that it's a laugh of pure joy. I strive for that kind of laugh. Why? Because I want to be the kind of woman my mom is. She is the perfect example of what a Godly woman should be.
"I don't know why all the trees change in the fall, but I know you're not scared of anything at all."
Growing up, I never knew my mom was scared of anything. She always seemed to have the strength to stand. She was Supermom, and I loved that about her. Momma feared the Lord and found her strength in Him. I admired that, and still do.
"I'm thirteen now and don't know how my friends could be so mean. I come home crying and you hold me tight."
My mom has always supported me in everything that I do, and I'm so thankful for that. On top of that, she totally understood my struggle with being emotional growing up. Anytime I was upset about a friend, she listened. She helped me understand why my friends or people in general could be so mean. And, she showed me that it's OK to cry sometimes.
"I don't know who I'm gonna talk to now at school, but I know I'm laughing on the car ride home with you."
A momma always knows what to say, and so did mine. She knew just how to make me laugh even if I was just crying. Whether it was her out of tune singing or the way she laughed, Momma knew how to make me happy.
"And now I know why all the trees change in the fall. I know you were on my side even when I was wrong. And I love you for giving me your eyes, staying back and watching me shine and..."
We grow older and seasons change, but a mother's love always remains the same. I thank God that He gave me the mom He did. She stood by me even when I was wrong and always made sure I knew what the right thing to do was. She gave me the best of everything she's had, even her eyes. Most of all, I'm so glad she allows me to follow my dreams and be the person I'm meant to be.
"I didn't know if you knew, so I'm taking the chance to say that I had the best day with you today."
So, Momma, here I am to say that, "I had the best day with you today." That sounds weird because we didn't spend any time together today. But, any day that I've ever spent with you is the best day. I know I never tell you that, so that's why I'm writing this. Thank you for being the best mom a girl could ask for. I love you.
