1. It is okay to change your mind. You will grow and you will learn and you will look back at the person you were and think, That’s not me, and that’s okay.
2. Your parents are human beings, flesh and bone and blood. They are human. They hate, they can be petty and they don’t always know best, despite what they might tell themselves over and over again. They are human, just like you.
3. One day you will meet someone. Her smile will lift your heart three inches. His grin will light your way for days. Their whispered words will keep you afloat. This person is someone you will want to be friends with forever. Maybe you will. Maybe you won’t. Losing a close friend will hurt in vastly different ways from losing a significant other. You might not recover from the divorce in one piece. You might not be okay. But you will stand up again.
4. What you feel is valid. If you are crying because you failed a test, it matters. If you are crying because of your favorite character’s death, it matters. If you are crying and you don’t know why, it matters.
5. You will disagree with the people you love sometimes. The sky won’t fall, as much as you think it will have to, as much as you will want it to.
6. There will be days where everything will hurt and you won’t be able to make it go away. That’s okay. You will make it.
7. You are not and will never be defined by numbers, by words, by anyone. You are an infinity of thoughts and dreams and hopes and life, and no matter what your GPA, your salary, your history – no matter what anyone else may say – you are worth galaxies.
