It doesn't matter how long you've known someone. It doesn't matter how popular someone is. There are so many better qualities someone could have that form a true friendship.
1. Being able to listen.
Whenever something important happens, my best friend is the first person I want to tell. It could be something so stupid like finding out that Starbucks came out with a new flavor. Or something more important like getting accepted into a program that I was looking forward to joining. Either way, I just want to tell my best friend everything.
2. Actually caring about your well being.
Alright, there's a big difference between someone that can listen to you talk and someone that cares about what you're saying. With some people, I get one worded answers after pouring my frustrations out to them and that's not okay. You need to be angry or annoyed or happy with me and care about why I'm feeling that way. Feel my emotions with me, like I would with you.
3. Understanding that not everyone is perfect.
Everyone has their own cross to carry. A true friend won't hone that burden, but help you get through it and understand not to judge you on mistakes.
4. Playing a positive role in your life.
Surrounding yourself with people that are driven and happy is a key aspect to being successful in life. You don't want to be surrounded by negativity.
5. Wanting what's truly best for you.
We tend to listen to what others tell us. We always go to our friends for advice, because we truly believe that they want what's best for us. We trust our true friends enough to try and guide us through life. They're not afraid to tell us how it is.
6. Being able to respect your views and morals.
An ideal friendship would be two people with very smilier views and morals, but not everyone thinks alike. So the next best thing is finding someone who can respect you, regardless of your differing opinions.
7. Having true love towards one another.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." ā 1 Corinthians 13:4-5
