Seton Hall University has gotten under my skin because they pride themselves on having a variety of opportunities to make college affordable and recently have been promoting affordable book prices for their students, but why the heck does the SHU book store sell a $341.75 book that is WRITTEN by Seton Hall?
Gossip Girl here! Here's the 411 on Seton Hall's expensive secret:
After I heard sob stories (legit sobs) and panic attacks because student's are trying to figure out how to pay for these crazy books, I did a little research myself. Seton Hall has recently required texts for classes, written by Seton Hall faculty, and almost ALL of them are in the price range from $190 to $341. Wanna know the best part? You cannot rent and you cannot purchase it anywhere else. :)
So get ready for my rant of the week:
First off: I would NEVER pay $341.75 for ONE book! I don't care if the pope, queen, or Obama was teaching the class, I am a college student! I do not have the funds to supply that much money on only one book when I have seven more to buy!
Second off: I am VERY disappointed in Seton Hall University because they are very aware that as a 20 year old, there is no way a student can afford a book like that without sacrificing everything you have (including your left arm).
Third off: According to the Ohio State University survey, 60% of average students are worried they will not have enough money to pay tutition and 32% admit that stressing over these finances neglects their studies. We have no more money SHU! We gave it all to you! How is it right for Seton Hall to make mandatory classes that require ridiculously over priced texts that we cannot purchase cheaper from any other resource? #Monopoly
The book store recently came out with price matching, saying that if you can find a cheaper price at another store they will lower their price! That's just wonderful, but these books are WRITTEN for and EXCLUSIVELY sold by SHU. :)
Fourth off (If you are still reading thank you): I am a proud pirate and I love Seton Hall University, most of my articles are encouraging others to share our pirate pride, but this needs to change. Please share my article to shed light on this issue and hopefully Seton Hall will take action!
Save us a left arm and lower your Seton Hall book prices.
#Thanks
Rant over.
