Meet Seth Dickinson, The Ole Miss Bachelor Of The Week
Seth Dickinson

Seth Dickinson is the epitome of a classic Southern Gentleman. From the time he sat down at the table until we finally had to leave for class, his compassion and kindness blew me away. He is a man who loves a good breakfast and had some incredible recommendations at Bottle Tree Bakery. So let’s go over the basics!

Hometown: Mantachie, Mississippi

Major: Public Policy and Sociology

Goal: Governor or Mississippi

Over two cups of coffee — that’s right ladies he’s a coffee lover — Seth told me about surviving a stroke his freshman year at Ole Miss. As if just discussing the daily news he told me about dying twice on the operating table and being paralyzed. Against the odds told to him by his doctor, he stayed in school, enrolling online, and is worked furiously to walk again.

To say he is inspiring would be the biggest understatement of today. This is where he came up with his life motto, “Just keep rolling along” just like the great Mississippi River.

His story with Ole Miss is one even he did not expect. Ole Miss became his home after he fell in love with it later in life. The Ole Miss Family played a role in his recovery. As a member of Delta Psi Fraternity, he witnessed the Greek community band together to support him. His deep appreciation has translated into his work within the community and he was even named Greek Man of the Year for 2108.

But loving history and politics is a must. Seth’s favorite time in history, Roosevelt’s time in office. In his free time, you can catch him reading up on current policies, his favorite historical periods, watching documentaries, or networking. So let’s have the rundown of his favorite things to watch!

Streaming Service: Netflix

TV Shows: Psych, House of Cards, CSPAN

Movies: It’s a Wonderful Life, Saving Private Ryan

However, he is a man who has a love of food. In disclosing that I had never eaten at Bourè, Seth told me how much I had been missing out on an Oxford Classic. It just so happens to be his favorite place to eat in Oxford. But, all the pasta lovers out there, his favorite genre of food is… Italian! You can catch him sitting anywhere he can see the city of Oxford and enjoying a good meal, some buttered pecan ice cream and a good Arnold Palmer. He’s a true golfer at heart!

As a born and raised Mississippian, Seth wants a girl who understands and shares his love for Mississippi — but you don’t worry if you’re not from here, he realizes you might have just gotten here as fast as you could!

He wants a good combination of Jackie O, Nancy Reagan, and Eleanor Roosevelt. His celebrity crushes are Grace Kelly and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge. A combination of all of these lady’s poise and personality make the perfect girl for Seth.

If you’re looking for a day filled with exploring the treasures of Oxford, having good meals, and meeting new people, look no further! You can always expect a handshake, and possibly a hug when you run into Seth.

In an interview meant to be about him, I feel like he left knowing more about me than I did him. Conversation was so much fun and so easy with Seth — but I would expect nothing less from a future Governor of Mississippi!

For anyone who is looking to get to know Seth better, follow him on Instagram (seth_dickinson) and send him a DM!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
