It's great having an excuse not to care. An excuse to throw all caution to the wind, forget your responsibilities and be reckless. It's this right of passage when you get to senior year to become this lazy bum and not care, you worked so hard the last four years and now it's your time to check out.
You have a huge paper due tomorrow and you haven’t started it. SYFI. Your friends are driving you up a wall and you want nothing to do with them. SYFI. You are sick of the rules and lack of freedom you have in your little hometown. SYFI.
They tell you a million times in the senior year, and well, high school in general, goes by fast. You won't believe it till you are walking up to get your diploma and you won't know how you got there. When you walk out of those doors with a diploma in your hand, don't look back with regret.
This is the last time in your life you will be living with your family surrounded by the people and places you have known your whole life. It’s the last time you will be surrounded by familiarity for a long time. As much as you may want to go out and experience the world because sitting in your bubble of hometown is too much shelter for you, there is a beauty and being naïve.
Don't skip prom because you're too cool. Don't get too caught up in trying to pick the right college that it consumes you and you forget about what is happening around you. Don't skip the big games. Don't ditch out on the Friday nights when you drive around and do nothing with your friends. Don’t skip out on family time. Most importantly, don’t wish time away.
So take too many pictures, show too much school pride, do spontaneous fun things with your friends, give your family extra hugs, break a few rules and still study at least a little for those tests. Use SYFI as an excuse to create memories, not get out of participating in them.
