Let me paint a picture for you: glitter, face paint, rhinestones, decked-out costumes, and a whole lot of chanting. This is a sorority girl's Bid Day. Don't know what Bid Day is? Well it is ultimately a sorority girl's Christmas- but instead of presents, we get a beautiful new pledge class. It takes place after the longest weekend known to Greek life: recruitment weekend. There is nothing better than getting new sisters and watching your sorority grow. To welcome our new girls, we may or may not take things slightly above and beyond. Lets start with the themes... the most exciting part- other than the fact that new sisters will be running out and into our arms- is the theme of a sorority's bid day. There are tons of themes that have been executed with a perfectionist approach. This year it was borderline impossible to keep ours a secret because of how excited we were.
Under the Sea with Alpha Xi.
Bid Day really all comes down to celebrating our new sisters and welcoming them to the organization that will help them grow as women for the rest of their lives. We are welcoming them home, essentially. A home away from home and a family of girls that will be there for the good times and the bad. Receiving a bid was the most exciting moment of my freshman year- I became a part of something so much bigger than myself and that decision has been the most rewarding one yet.
Being in my sorority helped me gain confidence that I never thought I'd have. My sisters hold me up and push me to be a better person. They are never judge-mental but constantly telling me that I can achieve anything. They've helped me gain confidence in the workplace, in an organization, in school, and as a woman in a world full of unrealistic society standards. I've become a leader because of my sisters. They have taught me that I have a voice and that I should use it.
My sisters have given me the strongest support system and they have become my forever best friends. Without them, I couldn't imagine what my college experience would be like. As my lovely sister, Kamille, once said:
"Think of the hardest time in your life and who was there by your side... times that by ten. Now think of the best time of your life and who was sharing it with you... times that by ten".
The numbers and love within sisterhood and a sorority are what inspire me to recruit the perfect girls to welcome into our chapter- girls that will wear our letters proudly and be an amazing asset to our sorority. We are constantly growing and improving and with that, we need sisters that will believe in what we are doing here.
I am proud of my sisters and what my chapter of Alpha Xi Delta does at Coastal Carolina University. I am proud of our new pledge class- our beautiful new sisters. I am proud of the Panhellenic community and the great recruitment we all had. As a senior, I want to leave my sorority in good hands. I want to look back after I graduate and see all of the great things my chapter is still doing here and I couldn't be more confident in my sisters after this Bid Day.
Bid Day is over and the hustle and bustle of recruitment has passed. I would like to say congratulations to all the sororities on their incredible new sisters and thank you to Alpha Xi Delta's Iota Pi chapter for giving a passionate senior the best memories of her last recruitment and Bid Day.
