The Official U of I Senior Bucket List

The Official U of I Senior Bucket List

Being seniors, there is only so much time we have left at Illinois so we need to make the most of it. The end is near, so here is a list of some things you might want to do before you graduate.

1. Join the Illini Inn Mug club.

It’s a staple for every Illinois student.

2. Visit the Illini Arcade

It’s interesting to say the least.

3. Actually buy Illinois gear.

We all have a ton of tanks and pocket tees with our letters, but rarely show any school spirit for our soon to be Alma Mater.

4. Day drink as much as possible.

One of the best parts of our campus is the day drink scene, especially when the weather is nice. Soon this coveted festivity will not be an option very often, so we need to take advantage of our current situation.

5. The non-bar bar crawl

Hit up all the places that serve alcohol but technically aren’t bars. Case of beers at Fat Sandwich, any drink at Papa Dells, Tequila shots at Burrito King, Margarita’s at Chipotle, a beer at Noodles & Co, the list goes on.

6. Visit Another School

It’s easy to never visit another campus while you go to U of I. Everyone visits you because it’s by far the best party school in Illinois. Visit one of your friends who goes to a university out of state.

7. Sunday night drag show at C-Street.

The crowd is amazing and super into the show, perfect idea for a girl’s night out.

6. Go to a hockey game and do shots at Illini Inn at half time.

Because who doesn’t love apple pie shots.

8. Actually sit on the quad.

We have such a beautiful quad, especially in the spring. Grab a book, some food, or just sit back and take in your time left on this campus.

9. Trivia Night.

For those chill times when you want to have a blast with a few friends but don’t want to deal with crowded bars. Hosted at Jupiter at the Crossing, Cowboy Monkey, Murphy’s, and Firehaus.

10. Spontaneous weekend road trip.

Not to another college, to a casino, to Nashville, St. Louis, anywhere with a group of friends.

11. Corny things you’ve wanted to do.

Ring the Altgeld Bell, Scale the rock climbing wall at the Arc, see a show at Krannert, go into every university building, go to the Japanese Gardens, lay out at the Arc pool, any of that stuff that seems lame but you know in the long run you’ll be glad you did it.

12. Go for a run past the horse stables.

It’s incredible to see the kinds of beauty we have around campus and it’s inspiring to change up your running path.

13. Silver Bullet.

Because aren’t we all just a little bit curious?

14. Farmer’s Market.

Locally grown foods from farmers in the area. Fresh while supporting small town America, you can’t go wrong.

15. Wear your most obnoxious clothes to happy hour.

If you haven’t done this already, you are missing out to say the least. Get a big group of friends, give yourself a theme, and have a great time.

16. Unofficial at the bars.

Unofficial is obviously the best day of the year. You can tell because students from other universities either throw their own sad pathetic version at their school or come here. Head to the bars where the real party is and avoid the unnecessary crowds and underclassmen as early as possible.

17. Get work done in new locations.

There are so many artsy coffee shops around both Champaign and Urbana. Changing your routine can make you appreciate the campus even more.

18. Complete every possible drinking game you’ve ever wanted to play.

Edward Fortyhands, a case race, Wizard Staff, Beersbee (beer frisbee), Louisville Chugger (dizzy bat), Beer Olympics, Quarters, Power Hour, the list is endless.

19. Volunteer.

With so many impactful nonprofits in the Champaign Urbana area that need help, make sure to give your time before walking across that stage.

20. Karaoke Wednesdays.

This is an obvious one but can be forgotten easily. Head to Firehaus or White Horse to get drunk and sing your heart out.

21. Make your own list.

These are all things I think are necessary to do before graduation but everyone has their own ideas. Make a list of your own to make sure you don’t miss anything that you’ve always wanted to do before leaving Illinois!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
