Whether you're a freshman or a senior, all college students know the horror that is the second semester. Finals seem to be approaching at a rapid speed, but the weeks until summer just seem to grow instead of shrink. How is this possible? You're given 50 essays and 20 books to read within the next two months, yet all you want to do is sleep and watch Netflix. Let us describe second semester slump to people who may not know about it using GIFs from an all time favorite show, "Friends."
1. Returning from winter break
Reunited with friends and returning to your little, but comfortable dorm can be great. We finally have our freedom back!
2. Moving everything back in
Of course, you had to take your couch and television back home for break. How else could you have movie nights with your best friends and keep up with your shows? Now it's time to move that all back into your dorm through the teeny tiny stairwell. Didn't really think about that part, did you?
3. Looking at your schedule for the semester
How are you supposed to get across campus in five minutes?! Why did I schedule five classes on the same day?! When did I schedule an 8 a.m.?! Will I be able to even eat or sleep?!
4. Trying to sleep the first few weeks of classes
You fell asleep somewhere around 2 a.m. all break and woke up usually around noon. Your mind is definitely not used to sleeping at 11 p.m. And the stress of new classes is not helping.
5. Sitting in a class that you know you're going to drop
This isn't a required class, and you've only been in it for 10 minutes and you've been assigned five assignments for tonight. The professor's voice is droning on and on. Can I just leave now and go to my adviser's office to drop it, or would that be considered rude?
6. Seeing your crush on campus for the first time since before break
It's been too long.
7. Having an essay, presentation and research paper due on the same day
The professors are beginning to realize that they don't have enough time to teach everything on the syllabus before the semester ends, so now there are assignments being thrown at you left and right. You get to pull an all-nighter while your friends get to go out.
8. Trying to understand the housing selection process
Before you know it, it's time to choose your housing for next year. They send out directions that are almost 100 pages long and expect you to understand every word.
9. The first warm day arrives
The sun is out, and it's finally above freezing! You can wear your new dress and sandals and even do homework outside! Campus is littered with people enjoying the warmth.
10. Then it snows again
It was too good to be true. If you go to school in New England, then you know how unpredictable the weather can be. One day it's 60 degrees and sunny, and the next there is a blizzard. Time to bundle up and pray for a snow day.
11. You get your midterms back
This could go two ways, but second semester midterms are definitely more difficult than first semester.
12. Spring Break!
A week to see your home friends and party! Too bad you end up working, sleeping and watching Netflix the entire time.
13. Your professors penalize you for not doing work over break
When did they assign us work? I didn't even know this was a thing. Why would they assign us work?! It was spring break!
14. Your diet takes a turn for the worst
You've lost all your determination to eat healthy. It's just too hard.
15. Looking nice is no longer a priority
You only leave your dorm to go to the library and class. Who cares if your makeup looks great or not?
16. Sleep is no longer an option
Equations and vocabulary words are the only thing on your mind now. No time for sleep.
17. Your parents ask how you are
I'm fine. Great. I don't have two exams and a paper due tomorrow that I'm not prepared at all for or anything like that.
18. Your friend says that they finished all their assignments
Oh, well, aren't you special? It's not like I have 20 more chapters to read tonight.
19. You begin to overreact sometimes
What do you mean you ate my sandwich? Why would you do that? That really hurts me that you would eat my sandwich. It was mine.
20. Finals arrive and your professors give you a novel-length study guide
I really don't remember learning any of this.
21. You don't fail any of your finals
It feels like someone lifted ten 10,000 pounds off your back.
22. Time to move out
Did I even use this much stuff this past year?
23. You realize you're going to miss school this summer
Maybe not the classes, but the campus and, of course, your friends. You suddenly don't want your friends to leave and can't wait to come back in the fall.
