It is the New Year and we have now come upon a new semester. Registering for classes and getting books are a reminder that the holidays don’t last forever. People are packing up their cars and bags and heading back to school. It is a new year and people are excited to see their friends, catch up, and get back to living the college life. Coming back to school means making an effort to keep up some of the New Year's resolutions you made. This is sure to help make sure your semester is a great one.
1. Go to your classes.
It is rather funny to even say that as a New Year resolution, but the fact is, people do get lazier by the time second semester rolls around. If you have to change up your class schedule, wake up earlier or even drink three cups of coffee, so be it. Just get to that class on time, because going to class can make the difference between an A and B, or even a C and a D.
2. Work out more.
Just being healthy and going to the gym can do so much for you and your body. By going to the gym, you feel better about yourself and you can get rid of your stress and anger. It also helps you sleep better at night; I would rather get a full eight hours of sleep in when I know I have the option to do so.
3. Eat healthier.
By eating healthier at school, you benefit so much more. It is hard because there is no one there to control your portions, or what you put into your body. You may like going out, but you can replace some of those empty calories in your body by drinking water and adding nutrients. By replacing them, it helps when midterms or finals come around because you are at a lesser risk of getting sick. Also, who doesn’t want to look good because they avoided that pizza and went with a salad, instead?
4. Study more.
Studying more does not mean becoming a nerd. It means that by going to the library more, you can form study groups earlier on, which will benefit you. By taking some time out of your day and replacing a nap with extra studying, your grades will improve. When you study more, you have more freedom to have fun. You won’t have to study all day on a Sunday because of the work you put in during the week.
5. Take some time for yourself.
School is stressful; I am not going to lie. Sometimes, when it gets overwhelming, just taking a step back and relaxing is beneficial. Don’t go out and party before a midterm; take a nap, instead, or treat yourself to something relaxing. By occasionally treating yourself as a reward for good work, it is a motivation to keep pushing through the semester. When you step back, you have clarity and you can grow and learn from that.
Trying to follow theses New Year's resolutions will help you. You can get better grades and have fun. When finals or midterms come around, it will be better because you will not have to worry about stressing as much, because your grades are great; and there are no worries about getting sick because you are taking care of yourself. It’s a new year; why not make it a great semester, too?
