Mental health has always been seen as something taboo; nobody feels comfortable talking about their depression or anxiety because it makes them seem vulnerable. With that being said, May is Mental Health Awareness Month so let's talk about it!

When I have a "mental health day" and do self-care activities, my mind and body are refreshed and I'm ready to take on the world! Here are seven activities to keep your mind and body healthy. Kick off those shoes, put on a face mask, and enjoy your staycation! (:

1. Have a spa day

Nothing is better than applying a face mask, sitting in a bubble bath, and painting your nails. There are tons of DIY spa ideas on Pinterest. This is one of my favorite activities to do when I'm feeling stressed.

2. Check out a new TV series

When you need something to take your mind off of things, starting a new TV series is vital. The magic in binge-watching your new favorite show is amazing. I suggest Shameless, The Office, That 70s Show, and Glee!

3. Journal

Writing my thoughts down in a journal has changed the way I handle my anxiety. After I write down my worries and how to fix them I feel free from my thoughts. No, your journal doesn't have to be the sappy "Dear Diary" we all think of. Bullet journaling is a fun and practical way of writing your thoughts down.

4. Get out in nature

There are so many different activities to do outside, I promise you'll be able to find something you enjoy! Take a hike, go have a picnic in the park, visit your local pool, bird watch, etc. Mother Nature has blessed us with so many reasons to be happy, you just have to find them!

5. Read a good book

The feeling you get when you finish a good book is amazing. Look for a book you won't be able to put down!

6. Find a new activity

Sometimes you need something new in your routine to boost your mood. Join an art class, go to the gym, learn to play an instrument, the possibilities are endless.

7. Talk to a friend

When you've been knocked down your friends will be there to pick you back up. Talk to someone you feel close with when you start to feel depressed, cry on their shoulder if you need to. If you're the friend, give them a big hug and just listen.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
