Amidst the excitement and scandal of the 2015 VMAs, an ad was aired during the commercials. The ad features seven girls openly talking about their insecurities, and not only that, speaking about them with confidence.
What would happen if we all took a moment to do this? Face that we are born the way we are, but not only that, learn to absolutely love our big nose, wide ears, or bad acne?
This reminds me of my friends, myself and many women in this day and age. There are a few things we are all absolutely guilty of. Stop comparing yourself to other women on social media. People only put the absolute best part of themselves on there. Stop commenting on how skinny the woman that walks by you looks; she was built that way. Stop putting other women down to lift yourself up.
Stop what you are doing. Really stop and look in the mirror at how awesome you are. Tell yourself you are, too. There is only one you in the whole world, I don’t care how many times your mother told you (shoutout to mine for preaching that true beauty comes from within). You are the perfect you.
It is time to love ourselves as we are, and not compare ourselves to others. We were designed so perfectly for a reason by a God that has a way greater plan than we can imagine. We need to learn to accept the talent and beauty we have each been given.
Stop comparing yourselves to other women. Everyone is perfect in his or her own way. Those girls with “perfect lives” on Instagram aren’t real, and no one is really that skinny. Learn to love yourself the way you are, I promise it will make you feel so much better.
Stop telling yourself you are not skinny enough, not muscular enough, not strong enough, because you are the way you are supposed to be. Words and thoughts you tell yourself are just as, if not more, hurtful than the words other people say about you.
Walk into a room and be the light. Be confident in your own skin, and walk around knowing you are beautiful in your own way.
Scarlett Johansson recently posted a picture of herself on Facebook. She is not wearing any makeup, and wants women to realize the true meaning of beauty.
She says, “There is no good to looking good if you are conscious all the time about how you look. You should be carefree. Love the real you.”
“I hope you spread the message and let the world know that you value inner beauty more than the outer appearance. "
Couldn’t agree with you more, Scar. Love the real you!
