April is coming to a close and so is your high school career.
While everyone has their own experience in high school, meaning you either loved it or you hated it, it's crazy to think this chapter of your life is about to be over. You're growing up and moving on to bigger and better things like student debt and a life of work. I mean... moving on to bigger and better things like college and a career you'll love. Or maybe I meant all of the above, but you'll find out soon enough.
It's your last months to say goodbye, here's what it's like:
IT'S THE FINAL COUNTDOWN! *Danananun danadadadun*
Don't lie, you've downloaded a countdown app and you discuss every day with your friends exactly how many days, hours, minutes are left until graduation. It's all exciting, but when you get to the last day and graduation, you'll be wondering why you rushed it so much. "Why was I excited for it to end?" was a question I often ask myself to this day. I mean, still keep the countdown app for you Instagram "#SeniorSunday" but don't rush it too much.
Oh boy, you're going to feel overwhelmed.
When I say overwhelmed, I mean a semi-truck of overwhelmingness is about to hit you at 110mph. The emotions of graduating and the craziness of preparations for graduation and your graduation party is about to hit you harder than ever. You'll be trying to do a senior prank if you haven't already, trying to take pictures with everyone, and taking you last high school exams. But throughout the craziness, it all works out in the end.
Senioritis is more real than ever.
Yes, we are all aware you are graduating soon, but attendance does still matter and so does your grade. You gotta go, man! In the end, you'll regret any day you miss in the last few months because it's less time you get to spend with great friends that make you laugh every day now, but that won't soon because you'll be scattered apart.
Crap, I'm leaving home soon. (For my soon to be college freshman)
Soon, you'll be packing all of your things to start a new adventure that is "college". You won't be able to pet your dog every morning (sad right?), have your mom's/dad's/grandpa's/grandma's awesome home cooking, or have your bed you've had for quite some time to fall asleep in. This is about to get real. You're an adult now doing adult things like your own laundry *gasp* and writing ten-page papers. You can do it though. No matter how hard it's going to be to say goodbye, it will be an amazing, life-changing experience.
Your teachers become your friends, weird huh?
You read that right, they'll become the coolest best friends ever. Your teachers are beyond excited and proud that they're sending you off to college or the next chapter of your life. After all, they kinda helped you graduate if you think about it. It's weird, they'll start to actually have fun in classes and talk to you about what you're doing with the rest of your life and want to be invited to your graduation parties! You'll see they weren't so bad after all. Their tough love has gotten you to where you are today.
Are we all going to be apart from each other? Nope. I won't accept it.
More than likely, you aren't going to the same college as your best friends. If you are, wow you're lucky. But if you aren't, realizing you can't just drive to their house or have lunch with them every day is hard. Realizing your best friends will get more best friends is just heartbreaking, but you'll always be there one and only. Keeping in contact may be hard if your hundreds or miles away, but make the effort so you can still have your important rant/gossips sessions daily or weekly. You'll still need them and they'll still need you.
I'm not crying, there's just a leak in my eyes.
If you haven't cried already, it's coming just you wait. Even if you've told yourself and others, "I can't wait to get the hell out of here" or "High school was the worst four years of my life," it'll happen. The worst is leaving that last day of school, driving home listening to your favorite sad song or your senior class song and realizing that's the last time you'll do that. You're saying goodbye to high school for good and it's honestly sad. So pack the tissues and don't hold back because when the tears come, they pour.
It's over, now what do I do?
You've walked across the stage and gotten your diploma at this point and had your last hoorah with your friends before you all work your butts off for the summer. You try to fathom how it all went by so fast, and you'll wonder what's going to happen next. Truth is, no one knows. Whether you're going to college or already have a job lined up, everyone's going separate ways and moving on in life. We don't know what the next day will bring, but you have to make the most of it. So, go out and make the most of what life we are given. Congratulations, graduates!
