Second Week Slump

Ugh, you forgot what it was like to have these responsibilities.

We waited, we anticipated, we prepared ourselves for the first week. Classes.

With the first week over, reality is finally sinking in. The routine is setting itself up and you're getting a feel for how this semester is going to go. You were excited for your first week back! You wanted to see your friends, you missed the sight of campus, heck, maybe you were actually excited for your new classes. But then after the first week you've realized, school kinda sucks. It's the second week and you're already behind. Blackboard confused the shit out of you and you already missed an assignment for some online class. Access financial aid seemed like a bomb prize until your teachers told you how many books you need to buy. Yeah, you have access financial aid just to give it back to the university. The system always wins...

You missed those lunch dates with your friends, but it's been five days and you've remembered why you hated that dining hall you always went to THEY HAVE NO FOOD. Everything is like half flavorful and nothing that's supposed to be hot, is. It's all just cold, flavorless food that you wait 20 minutes in line for.

The promise of a new year brings hope for new friends and maybe even a new significant other. But most people don't change and the only friends you make the time to hang out with are the ones you always have. You're just a creature of habit.

You planned to be that organized and motivated student. You wanted to get up early before classes, go to the gym and still be showered and ready on time. But here you are... up the night before classes writing an article at 2 a.m. when you should be sleeping. Ya know, so you can be productive like your lying self said you would be.

Ugh. You forgot what it was like to have these responsibilities. Sure, summer might not have been the lazy, fun and carefree summer you wanted, but even working two jobs and living at home was easier to deal with than the load of homework you now have.

Yeah, a new semester seemed like a good idea. But so did casting a new "Steve" in Blue's Clues and we all know how that turned out...

Just a few more months and you can be back at home, wishing for another new semester.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
