Struggles of a College Student

Second Semester As Told By Family Guy

College is really tough. First semester is hard enough because you've been off for three months for the summer, but second semester is definitely harder. We had only one month off of school, which is basically a tease. Right when you get used to waking up late and the freedom of having no classes or homework, it's time to go back to school. Waking up at 8 AM after a month off for Christmas break really isn't my cup of tea. It was hard enough leaving my family and friends back home, and now I have to actually wake up before noon to attend classes and do homework. Here is my perspective of second semester as told by Family Guy.

1. Although you missed all of your friends, you really aren't ready to wake up at 8 AM for a full day of classes.

So instead, you sit in bed contemplating if school is really worth it.

2. You go to your first day of class, which is "Syllabus Day."

When you find out that your professor doesn't take attendance.

3. But then your professor says there will be a group project and you don't get to pick your partner.

4. But (luckily) you get partnered with your best friend to complete the project anyways.

5. Coffee

Before you begin talking about any project, homework, or anything else for that matter, you must have your (second) daily dose of coffee.

6. Not even coffee can get you through lecture classes

Those are the absolute worst.

7. You know what sucks more than lecture classes? Mondays.

8. And if there's an exam on a Monday morning, you can forget studying.

But by some miracle you got an A.

9. If someone reminds the teacher about collecting homework, you immediately hate them

10. Being in college also means being in debt

So, checking your credit card statement is always disappointing.

11. Food

But let's be honest, half your money went to buying food. So, forget the freshman 15. It's more like the junior 30.

12. Since you've gained some weight in college, you try and get your daily exercise in before bed

13. When your professor tells you there is no study guide for the cumulative final

14. Then you reminisce about when you were a kid who so desperately wanted to grow up

And now you're like, "What was I thinking?"

Although college is tough and requires hard work, I've definitely met some amazing people and wouldn't change it for anything. Despite all of the studying, college is fun. I mean, college is supposed to be the best times of your life! So, enjoy it. And maybe you should try studying for those exams next time. Or not. Either one.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
