It's the last month or two of school, and we are all aching for summer vacation. The sun is shining, plans are being made, classes are being (stressfully) chosen for next year, we are all wishing we had gone to the gym a little more before now, and unfortunately, we're going to have to say goodbye to some wonderful people (not a goodbye, but a see you later).
Being a college student, I am overwhelmed with studying for final exams, presentations, work, my social life, being broke (all the time), and my own personal health. It's extremely hard balancing everything and maintaining a positive attitude. Luckily planners were invented!
It's crazy how fast the school year goes by. Before you know it, you are rushing to cram everything you've learned in preparation for your finals, you have to start packing up your dorm, and begin to think about moving away from your roommates who have been by your side for almost eight months, now.
It's going to be strange moving back home and living with my parents after months of living with friends. That's what I'll miss most about going home for the summer -- my roommates. I'm going to miss waking up on the weekends and eating breakfast with them, and talking about everything that comes to our minds.
I guess that's the great part about college: You move away from home and completely engulf yourself in a whole new world -- the people, excessive studying, trips to the caf, always feeling broke, library cram sessions, target runs with your friends, the parties, the ability to go out whenever you want and do any spontaneous thing you can think of, the adventures, and mainly the independence you now have.
I remember making my decision of which college I wanted to go to, like it was yesterday, and I am already finishing my first year here at SSU. It amazes me how fast time goes by, because before I know it I'll be graduating. Talking to seniors who are going to graduate this semester fills me with excitement because they are in a transitional period in their life -- beginning to look for jobs, moving out, applying to continue their education, and mostly just moving into a new chapter of their lives. I know that if I continue to work hard I will be in their position soon enough.
As summer approaches there is a mixture of excitement, fear and anxiety when thinking about classes (particularly dead week), and a little bit of sadness for leaving. But as each school year finishes it brings a promise for the start of a new year, and the chance to start new habits, get involved in new organizations, and to me it means opportunity.
