School, Social Life, or Sleep: Which Two Will You Choose?

Everyone says you have to pick three but I think many of us have found that it is not necessarily true.

There are so many different things that can help you achieve all three and here are just a few.

Coffee: Coffee is your best friend. You can't just get fraps and passion tea when you go to Starbs, lattes and iced coffee are essential. I discovered the true power of coffee the last quarter of my first year and can no longer function properly without it.

Time management: It is safe to say that every single college kid has been lectured by a parent or teacher about "time management" but, college is the time to start listening. If you make sure to limit your sleep to 8 hours every night instead of the desirable 10 to 12, you will still be just as functional, if not more so. Let's be real, most of us only take 12-14 units a quarter which leaves us with about 8 hours each weekday that we can spend studying, working out, or going to work. Don't waste your time napping or watching Netflix (if you can help it, I know I can't sometimes). So, plan ahead of time what hours you will spend at the library!

Waking up at the same time everyday: Everyone deserves to sleep in one or two days on weekends but it is best to wake up at the same time everyday when possible. It keeps you on a good sleep schedule so you don't waste time trying to fall asleep at night or trying to wake up in the morning.

Exercise: Working out in the morning or at night can either help you wake up or help you get tired enough to fall asleep. Either way, it'll help you feel better, look better, and get more sleep.

It's the freakin' weekend: Weekends should be for doing whatever it is you want to do like going out or simply doing nothing at all. That means that weekdays should be spent studying so you don't have to do it on weekends. Try and schedule your shifts for work during the day on weekends in order to stay productive, but also leave the nighttime for a good time.

Getting ready for class: We all have to go to class everyday and the less you care about what you look like, the better. We all know those girls that get up and shower and curl their hair and do their make up and wear a freaking dress to their 8AM lecture but it wastes so much time and energy. Just wake up 30 minutes before class, brush your teeth and hair, put on some yoga pants (or basketball shorts for you guys), and walk/bike to class. Save your make up and good hair days for the weekend.

Work: Most of us have jobs in college whether it is to pay for school or to pay for good times, we all need that cash flow. Make sure it doesn't take over too much of your time though, because getting good grades and having fun with your friends is what college is all about. You don't want to look back in ten years and say all you did in college was work and study, so let the good times roll.

Chill out: We all have those days that we need to refresh and relax with some Netflix or reading or whatever calms you down. We can't be on top of it 100% of the time so make sure you allow yourself time to do absolutely nothing.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
