The capital region has so much to offer:the entertainment (such as Proctor's and the Plaza), the sites (such as Albany's legislative buildings and Schenectady's Rose Garden), the shopping (such as Crossgates and Colonie Center) and, most importantly, the food! I lived my entire life in Schenectady, so I have experienced all of the capital region's fine dining. Whether I'm looking to nibble on pita and get some work done or craving a hearty meal to share with friends, there are various places in the capital region that are worth noting. Here is a list of places that I hold a special place in my heart.
1. If you're taking your parents out for a nice dinner: Ferrari's (Schenectady). It's the family-run Italian restaurant where the tables are complete with Italian map placemats and the walls are taken over by old fashioned photos. Ferrari's is the ideal place to experience the true flavors of Italy while also feeling like you were plopped into your Italian grandmother's kitchen. Their garlic bread is everything.
2. If you're looking for a festive time with friends: El Loco Mexican Cafe (Albany). One can immediately feel the authenticity and energy of this evocative, inviting restaurant. If you're looking for a flavorful and filling meal while also experiencing the inviting and stimulating nature of a Mexican Restaurant, then this is the perfect place to rally up some friends and go. Obviously, nachos all the way.
3. If you're seeking to get work done while also satisfying your tummy: Professor Java's (Albany). This hidden gem has a cozy setting perfect for writing a paper while also munching on an delectably warm panini. They're known for there beverages: Whether it's their tea, smoothies or lattes, you can't go wrong!
4. If you're craving some good ol' wholesome food: The Barnsider (Colonie). This rustic barn provides customers with quality steak and fresh fish, bound to satisfy anyone's deepest hunger. The intimately dim lighting and deep mahogany furniture offer such a homey atmosphere, one that gently lulls you into your food comma. Their salad bar is bomb, complete with the world's best croutons.
5. If you're suffering from a sweet tooth: Civitello's (Schenectady). The delicious aroma of bread hits you right when you step foot into this small, but nevertheless adorable bakery. Although they have amazing pizza, I personally enjoy their Italian ice. It's the most refreshing and delicious (a great substitute for ice cream!) snack to enjoy with friends. My go-to flavor is lemon.
Happy Eating!! :)
