It's the most wonderful time of the year – Halloween!. Fall is in full swing, the leaves are falling, pumpkin spice everything is in its prime, and haunted houses are a fun activity for everyone, young and old. One must-do during the short-lived fall season is watching scary Halloween movies. Everyone has their preferences to what kind of horror/thriller they decided to watch; whether you want to pee your pants in fear (no thank you), or laugh at how horribly thought out it is. This is exactly what I did when I decided to watch Children of The Corn.
My roommate and I live in our sorority house, and apparently, our room is "haunted." So, naturally, we decided we would watch a scary movie together. Too bad we are both too scared to watch a real scary ghost movie, so we chose the well-known Stephen King movie Children of the Corn. This movie was released in 1984, so the graphics are slightly less than sub-par.
Here are some reasons why the movie isn't actually that scary:
1. The acting for one is terrible
When one of the characters is supposed to scared, they over-react to the point where it is just plain funny. It is too ridiculous to take the movie seriously.
2. The graphics are horrible
In real life, if someone were to get their throat slit open, the entire floor would be flooded with blood. But in the movie, there would only be a few drops of some slightly reddish substance on the ground.
3. Some parts just simply didn't make sense
Its hard to be scared when two parts just don't add up. One scene, where Burt gets stabbed in the chest, he rips the knife right out and runs. And there hardly any blood! Realistically, he would be on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood. There is no way he would be able to run. There are many other scenes like this too.
I gotta say, the one scene where I truly felt scared or sad, is when the children decide to kill the dog of the man at the gas station. Any movie where dogs die is a sad one.
However, if you truly want to be scared out of your mind, I do not recommend The Children of The Corn. Next time, I would just read the book.
