Saying Goodbye Is The Easy Part
Jannette Aguirre

Never in a million years would I have ever known how difficult it is to live without my best friend. When she left for college, saying goodbye was the most painful thing I’ve had to do. Of course, I cried like a baby. I couldn’t stop the tears even if I wanted to. I hugged her and it took everything in me to let her go. I could actually feel my heart breaking. I told her a million times I hate goodbyes and was not prepared to say goodbye to her. But we managed to go on our journeys as fresh college students.

Now she is miles and miles away from me, I realized saying goodbye to her was the easiest thing in the world because having to go through this whole college experience without her is the hardest, most frustrating thing I’ve had to do. We went from seeing each other every day to not seeing each other at all. Even though texts and calls allow us to stay connected, it’s not the same as having her here in person.

Although, I am just talking about her, we are a trio. I am lucky enough to still have our other best friend here with me. I had to say goodbye to her but she had to say goodbye to the both of us, which I’m sure was harder. But every time one of her favorite songs plays in the car, I can’t help but say, “I wish she was here.” Because of her, I can’t listen to her favorite song "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa without crying. I don’t cry because it’s her favorite. I cry because it describes our current situation so perfectly.

Like the famous quote from the show, "Grey’s Anatomy," “She is my person.” She is the person who could make me laugh no matter what. She’s the only person who knows exactly what to do to make me mad and does it because it's funny. I seriously can’t stand my person sometimes but I’d be lost without her. She’s the person who will be holding my hair back after I drank too much at a party. She’s the person who will get up at four in the morning to pick me up when my car breaks down. She’s the person I need the most right now.

College turned out to be harder than we both thought it would. When she texts me about how hard things are and how much she’s been crying, I want to tell her to just get her butt back here. But I don’t because I can’t be selfish. I want her to succeed where she is at. She worked hard to get accepted to the college of her dreams and I will never tell her to quit. I want her to push through it. Even though I’m having a hard time too, I don’t want her to come back without her actually trying.

So, best friend, I know things are really hard right now. I know that it doesn’t seem worth the stress to get a degree and I can’t lie to you and say that it will get better. There will always be nights where you stay up until 4 a.m. Days where you are going to want to give up but we have to keep tying. If I can’t give up, neither can you. There’s nothing more I want to do right now than to go pick you up from your dorm and runaway from everything. But we’re both broke college students, so I don’t think we would even get very far.

Things aren’t going to be all rainbows and unicorns, but I know that you can do this. And if one day you just can’t take it anymore and you decided to come back, I will not be disappointed in you. I will not shake my head at you. I will help you figure out whatever it is you really want to do and help you achieve it.

All these miles stop us from seeing each other but you are my person and nobody is ever going to replace you, honey. You are pretty much stuck with me until one of us dies. So start doing all the work that you got piled on your desk. You got this fam.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
