College makes students more broke than ever before. We spend our days in class and the library only to have our bank accounts slowly empty. There are opportunities all around to help you save money and also get the best bang for your buck.
1. Apps to track your money
There are a plethora of apps that help you budget your money as well as apps that take the leftover change from each of your transactions and put it into a savings account. (Check out Capital!)
2. Stay in some days
If going out always entails lots of money for you, take the L sometimes and have a chill night in. Watch a movie on Netflix or hang out with friends. Each time you want to do something there will most likely always be a free option.
3. Budget for the week
On Sundays plan how much money you will spend during the week and try to stick to it. The more planning, the better.
4. Shop around
If you need something, don't just settle for the first one you see. Look around and compare your options. Chances are, there will be a cheaper choice. Also, really think about whether or not you truly need it or if it is a waste of money at the moment.
5. Student discounts
Always ask! You can never be sure if a store has student discounts, so always bring it up and always have your student ID on you. The discounts start to add up and any little saving helps.
Saving money is important no matter your age or situation. Unexpected events happen and it's better to be safe than sorry. College is expensive in every aspect and money can be super stressful, but there are options to help you out.
