Saturdays Are For The Spartans

Game day is a big thing around here.

Saturdays Are For The Spartans

Well it is that time of the year again, people! The time where you can visit any college town and hear the loud roar of fans getting ready to watch their beloved team take the field. Yes, you guessed it, it's tailgating season. My favorite time of the year. I treat game day as if it was Christmas. I wake up at ridiculous times in order to pick out that perfect outfit to show my team spirit, the cray hair styles, the face tattoos, glitter, and so much more. Not to mention the need to gather all your closest friends and begin the rather long day that seems to go so fast.

So many college towns have their tailgate traditions, but I truly believe MSU's way of tailgating is the best. The energy on campus is not like any other energy I have ever felt. I live for the moments when I step outside my dorm and see so many other students decked out in amazing green and white outfits as well. This football season is a year of redemption for the Spartans, and let me tell you, it has been fun so far. It only gets better when your first four games are home games as well. It means four times where you can dress up, party, and win.

That feeling you get when you walk into the stadium at the start of the game brings a rush to my body. It makes me realize I am right at home. To see all of the other thousands of students filling up the student section makes me amazed at how cool my school is. An even better thing about MSU is that even if we do lose, we still know how to get right back up and have a good time. Other teams have an issue with this and tend to sulk for a few hours after a loss.

Only on game day would I feel confident enough to run up and down Grand River with my Michigan State flag. Another thing about Grand River that is great is the many fans walking up and down it screaming "Go Green" just to have it returned with a "Go White!" It's one of those days that even if you don't have game day tickets or don't make it to the game, you can go to any restaurant on campus and order some drunk food and watch the game. Sometimes I think this is the better option instead of going to the game. Some question why Michigan State is such a great place, and if you come up for a game day you will begin to understand why.

Only at MSU would you be able to go to a frat on game day and find a slip and slide in their back yard or a trampoline to jump on. Game day is a time where all Spartans gather together as one. If you see me on game day, know that I will be decked out in some outfit that is fun and wild but shows my team spirit. So clearly you can tell just how much I love tailgating season and I hope you love tailgating season too!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
