If there is a God, then please have mercy on us all. Sarah Palin, former 2008 GOP presidential candidate and John McCain’s running mate, has endorsed Donald Trump.
I think I’m in shock. The Republican party’s two biggest joke candidates of the 21st century are now in cahoots with each other. All I can picture is Tina Fey and Taran Killam on SNL saying, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!” I’m sure that sketch is going to happen and it’s going to be hilarious.
But seriously though, let me count the ways I am so totally disgusted.
Sarah Palin revealed that her family “used to hustle over the border for health care we received in Canada.” However, during the 2008 campaign, she repeatedly attacked Obamacare, calling it a “death panel.” She traveled over the border to receive better health care, not unlike Mexican immigrants who come to the United States, albeit and often illegally, not only for better health care, but better quality of life.
Now that she’s aligned with Donald Trump, who has repeatedly screamed Hispanic racial slurs at his public rallies and believes any diffusion across the U.S.-Mexico border is an atrocity and a threat to national security – to the point where we need to build a great wall – Sarah Palin has officially gone back on her word and labeled herself a hypocrite.
Meanwhile, Jonah Goldberg, a National Review Online writer, said that Trump tweets like a “14-year-old girl.” Trump loses it, naturally. He tweeted: @JonahNRO You stated that I started “relentlessly tweeting like a 14-year-old girl...” Horrible insult to women. Resign now or later!” Trump has the balls to act like a feminist, act like he cares about women’s rights, even though he’s actually a complete misogynist.
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Sarah Palin claimed that she had a solid grasp on American-Russian relations by saying, “As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where – where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border.” Not only is this slightly incoherent and doesn’t make much sense, Palin thinks that since she lives in Alaska and because she was state governor – a position that has no international relations requirements – she somehow holds the key to solving the neo-Cold War with Putin’s Russia.
Trump’s opinion on ISIS might even be a more ignorant foreign policy viewpoint. He believes that Russia should fight ISIS and that the U.S. should let Russia take care of the whole situation. He said, “Let Syria and ISIS fight. Why do we care? ... And let Russia, they’re in Syria already, let them fight ISIS.”
The problem with doing this just builds tensions between the U.S. and Russia. Russia will feel abandoned and an already rocky relationship between the two nations will become more turbulent. Even if in a hypothetical situation, Russia was successful, that would only eliminate one problem. Instead of dealing with ISIS, we would be dealing with an even angrier Putin.
There you have it. It’s like a match made in Heaven! (Hell?) Let’s just hope that he doesn’t pick her as his running mate if he gets nominated. Hell, hopefully one of the other GOP candidates can steal it out from under him.
