12 Things You Know When You've Lived In The Same House Your Whole Life

Living in the same house all your life definitely isn't all it's cracked up to be. Still, it has its perks. One of them is never having to make brand new friends. Here are 12 more things you'll experience when you've lived in the same house your entire life.

1. Everyone knows where you live because it hasn't ever changed.

*Sees a friend that you haven't seen since 5th grade* "Hey come over tonight!" "Where are you living?" "Same place I always have!" Yup, typical conversation.

2. When you were younger you explored all the cool "secret" places on your property.

As you got older you also decided to take cute pictures. Some of them were such secretive places that you wouldn't even tell your siblings. That was YOUR place.

3. You figure there are random secret notes hidden in every corner of the house but know they will never be found.

Someday when your house is old(er) and finally torn down, they'll find hundreds of love letters to your third-grade crush. It'll make such a cute movie.

4. Every room holds a happy memory and a sad memory.

Some of those memories are now both happy and sad at the same time.

5. You can get anywhere in the house with your eyes closed.

This is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Say hello to eating mindlessly at 3 a.m.

6. There are one or two rooms that no one goes in... because it's filled with junk you can't find a place for.

It's a mess, but absolutely no one wants to take the time to organize it and throw out the things you probably haven't needed for 10 years.

7. There are still decorations up from when you were a baby.

Baby pictures, Elmo, Dora. You name it, you can probably find something related to it. Even if it's just in that storage room.

8. Moving away for college is kind of your sweetest dream and biggest nightmare.

How am I supposed to pack 18 years worth of stuff into one car??? But also, heck yeah, I get to live somewhere new for a change!

9. You know all the little tricks for the things that don't quite work anymore.

Whether it be sitting on the washing machine or wiggling the toilet handle, you know all the little tricks to keep the house moving semi-smoothly.

10. You could tell stories about your house for days.

Bobbie Hall

There was that one time the chandelier fell on the table because we tried to kill a bug and when I split open my sister's chin on our piano and when we found a giant hole in the wall and the time we had a bat in the house and...yeah, there are more stories than you can even remember. (All true stories, BTW.)

11. You know where all the best lighting is.

Me, casually sitting on the ground because I know it's the only good place in the kitchen for lighting after exactly 6 p.m. Yeah, you know the specifics.

12. You pray you'll never part with it.

In some ways it sucks to live in the same house your entire childhood, but in so many more it's the best gift.

What more could you ask for than your entire childhood in one wonderful place?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
