Break out your green and orange accessories because St. Patrick's Day is right around the corner! Growing up in an Irish family, St. Patrick's day has always been exciting. My memories of this day are filled with cabbage, potatoes, family, Irish whiskey, and some classic Irish songs.This March 17th, I'm going to be in Savannah Georgia, home to the second largest Saint Patrick's day celebration in the United States. With the festivities just a few days away, I can't help but have green on the brain.
I dedicated much of my midterm procrastination to compiling a Saint Patrick's day playlist. Full of some classic Irish drinking songs and some favorite Irish-native artists, this playlist is essential for all St. Patrick's day parties. Nothing gets me more spirited than bagpipes and a thick Irish brogue.
Whether you're eating corned beaf and cabbage or simply going to a pub, here's what your Irish playlist should definitely include:
1. The Pogues
This 1980s Celtic rock band is a staple for anyone who loves a good Irish influenced head-banger. Their music is a great representation of traditional Irish instruments, with punk style. My favorite song of theirs: "Devil's Dance Floor".
2. Dropkick Murphys
Most known for their song, "I'm Shipping Up To Boston", which is featured in "The Departed", this band is an American Celtic punk band with some awesome songs full of Irish spirit.
3. Molly Malone & The Irish Rover
You can't go wrong with classic Irish folk songs. I've been singing these songs since I was a little kid. Not only did we sing them in music class, but my grandparents used to sing these around the house when I was younger.
4. Irish-Native artists
What do B*witched, Hoizer, Bono, and House of Pain all have in common? They all stem from Irish heritage. C'est la vie, and jump around this Saint Patrick's day with some of these awesome artists (See what I did there?).
